Yep, I'd just kill it and build a new and better one.

Why kill this and go to work building a new one guessing on what might work when you can keep this going and try out ideas to find out what will work?

Think of this as massive alpha testing for SWGII where people are paying to take part.

As has been said, 9/11 was a bad example of the terrorist/hostage dynamic. A better example would be the horrible incident in Beslan, Russia where a group of terrorists took over a school. In that case, as soon as the $**t hit the fan and the counter-terrorist forces started coming in the terrorists opened fire on the hostages and killed a lot of them.

Odd goings on -- both work for me

This post is so naive it's just adorable:

Here's the dream scenario:
1. 20,000 plus gamers sign this petition. Almost 9,000 already have--in one day--so I think this number can definitely be reached.
2. Gamespot, IGN, etc.--the corporate gaming sites--pick up on the news and post a few articles: "That's a huge respone for a petition and definitely indicates how much anger is out there in the gaming community about the licensing deal."
3. The video game industry analysts--who only read the corporate sites and spend the rest of their day trying to understand video games without actually playing them--see the posts on IGN and Gamespot.
4. The analysts then make a few dramatic quotes about a possible consumer backlash against the licensing deal and how it could affect EA's profits--and their stock price. "EA's excessive payment for the license, combined with a possible consumer backlash as already seen in a petition with the signatures of 20,000 gamers, makes it appear that EA may have stumbled. This could potentially affect unit sales and thus profits for future quarters."
5. EA's stock price goes down in reaction to the quotes from the analysts.
6. EA shits its pants.
7. Merry Christmas for everyone!

whether or not this is legal? They've changed their EULA to allow you to use their prior content, so I'm not complaining or anything, but I'd be really curious to see if they could hold you to a EULA that was changed AFTER you "agreed" to it. AFAIK, every EULA is very hot on calling itself a "binding contract", and I don't think you can just change a binding contract without both parties agreeing and resigning?

Creston

It wouldn't be legal in the sense that it changed the terms of the contract you agreed to when you agreed to the EULA. The original EULA is still binding, but only on the original terms.

However, I'm assuming that when they released the content for all previous Epic Games Unreal franchise games they retained the exclusive right to that content. What they've done here is OK the limited use of that content by giving up the right to prosecute people who use that content in Unreal Tournament 2004 Mods. They can do that (give up their right) without another party agreeing to it.

WTF???? They spent practically the last SIX months before release claiming that they were done but waiting on Valve/VUG to get their shit sorted out!!

"Pulling a Valve" would have entailed them doing the right thing and declaring the game delayed by at least a year so that they could squash the incredible number of bugs on display in this POS.

Why don't people get this!!!?!?!?!!?!?!!!???????

That's a lovely hissey-fit, but he was obviously referring to the fact that Valve once again made another unmeetable release date claim, this time for their patch, whereas Troika did the responsible thing and just gave an honest "when it's done" promise for their patch.

Oh No! If the game takes too long to reach me, there's a good chance the graphics will end up looking dated

I think all game companies should follow Bioware's route. Give all the games a good custom content creation system, and then make sure your community can make some money off of their own work. Even if it is a very small amount of money, this can really help drive authors to make quality content. In turn, the games will have their sales boosted at the shelves

From what I know of their plan, this is going to be a system whereby BioWare will continue to create content for the game and sell it online.

The only community work that will be sold will be that which is officially commisioned by BioWare (as I'm assuming the one "fan" module for sale was)and therefore will be de facto BioWare content. This won't be a system where anyone can independently create a module and sell it.

Ebgames pushed back their release date to November 8th. I wonder how accurate that is.

How accurate were their last 4 release dates?

I fear for F.E.A.R.

What is there to be fearful for? Personally, I can't wait for Monolith to dump F.E.A.R and the NOLF series and start on Catwoman, Pluto Nash and Kangaroo Jack games.

what are else are Bioware doing apart from Dragons Age

BioWare is working on Dragon Age, Jade Empire, and at lest one other as of yet unannounced project, which is another of their own IP rather than a licence (read: not D&D, Star Wars etc.)

In any case, VTM: Bloodlines is coming, which is looking an awful lot like a spiritual successor to Deus Ex.

Sure it's coming... We just have to wait for the genuises at Valve to finally finish HL2 so they can be the first Source game out.

At least the most recent screenshots are starting to look respectable

That isn't the "real story". If you're going to pretend to be a "Video Game Historian", then you mind as well allow a few facts to enter your history.

Whaaaa???

The tale of Ubi and the sodomized Naive Gamer isn't the "real history"? But it seemed so authentic! Thanks for setting me straight.

Luke, where did the language originate? Who bastardized it?
'Nuff said.

Every language is just a bastardized version of an even older language, so I'd hold off claiming any spelling or pronunciation is "right" because it's the "original"

Why is it that the NFL and NBA both feel compelled to have the commissioner announce each and every pick. I got sick of that guy 3 picks into the draft. Let the teams go up and announce their own pick like in the NHL.

And who was the genius at ESPN that decided to list the teams on your ticker in alphabetical order rather than by draft order. People want to know who was picked by whom, in what order, and who is coming up. Scrolling the teams alphabetically made it impossible to follow.

alternativly, when writing one can always just stick to either he or she, but not both.

IMO, just stick with players and they and leave gender out of it entirely

Not sure if the post below this is sarcasm, but DX2 had "universal ammo" and it sucked quite frankly.

You aren't sure whether that was sarcasm???

Lucasarts is responsible for almost all of the content in KOTOR. That's what in the hell I'm talking about.

If you mean they came up with the Star Wars universe, you're right.

If you mean they came up with the story, rules implementation, artwork, models or any design decisions, you're out to lunch. All of those were created internally by BioWare
