Star Trek was about diplomacy and exploration
Did you even WATCH the original series of Star Trek? The original series was just about always about combat. STO is thankfully a throwback to TOS where we can indulge our Kirk-like fantasies of having a bit of biff in space ... with just a minor reference to that Next Gen "how do you feel Mr Slathering Alien Beastie. I sense you just need a HUG!" travesty.

They did this same thing with Champions Online, and it was idiotic when they did it for that game, too.
It's the same thing that 90% of MMORPG publishers do nowadays.

I just hope it's coming out for the PC the same time as it comes out for consoles.

I wish they'd open the beta up now. I could really use an MMOG to waste some time since work has slowed to a crawl.
Considering they only really just started closed beta only a month ago, you really don't want it go to Open Beta.

Ok I am a whore for environmental FX, and the whole snow/water thing almost has me sold to at least try it out.

Out of curiosity, how have you guys already played it if it's not in stores for another month?
It came out in Oz last week. It's not bad, but it's not a patch on DA:O which is what is currently absorbing my time. I think it compares favorably to Risen, which I enjoyed ... except for the Mario/Zelda ending. (ARGH!!)

The graphics got a bit of a overhaul. Have they gone upgraded to DX10 or something?

I agree. Although the Tank/DPS/Support paradigm is getting a little old.

Blue's News has more whiners than any other site I read.
As much as I'm inclined to agree with you, the Blues News crowd are rank amatuers in the whining stakes compared to No Mutants Allowed. Those guys have exceeded all expectations for whining and I firmly believe if it was made an Olymipic sport, they could easily take the Gold and set almost unbreakable world records. Even my grandfather can't beat them, and that's saying something.

That wasn't a whine, by the way ... just an observation.

Does anybody care about this on PC?

An Star Trek top-down arcade shooter? *pfft* That's almost as much a blasphemy as that Insurrection movie was.

This will never get off the ground. Interplay will greed-rape masthead in the same way they are trying to greed-rape Bethesda. More fool Masthead.

The one-eyed Bethesda haters of NMA must be rubbing their hands with glee. Trust them to be totally on top of a story when things are not going Bethesda's way.

I've canceled my Steam pre-order, along with my Dragon Age pre-order through them. And additional 8Gb download on top of the one I'd previously done would kill my monthly download limit (... well damn close to it anyway). Very unprofessional, Steam. Very unprofessional.

Not just AU but EVERYWHERE in the world (apart from North America) seemed to get less than an hours warning about the change in release date. Talk about major fuck up! Way to pull the rug out from under people.

... the bullshit precedence of the "business model he tried to set" in the gaming industry ...
If your talking about lifetime subscriptions, Turbine set the precedent WELL before Bill Roper and it worked well for them.
