These were two of the most entertaining games I've ever played. So much fun! What a shame they never continued, maybe some day and hopefully made right.
The first game was a good point 'n' click adventure with nice mood and decent puzzles. But by most accounts this is going to be a casual game which means much less depth, probably shorter, and generally not as good. The lines are being blurred a bit between the traditional adventure genre (which is still alive, if not as popular as in the 90s) and new casual + hidden object games but the latter tend to not be as good. So, I'm disappointed to learn this sequel is going to be casual.
Deus Ex remains my favourite game ever some seven years later, but I'm almost certain they will make the same mistakes as Invisible War (which I didn't find awful but a very bad sequel)
"I've never seen a title so promising, and was disappointed so bitterly."
For me, that would be "Deus Ex: Invisible War". The sequel to one of the all-time great games, a mouth-watering website... then a dud of a game, dumbed down for console kiddies. Argh, still bothers me...
Forget Battlefront 3, I want Knights of the Old Republic 3! God forbid we get a good single-player RPG though, they are so less common nowadays than in the past...
I can't bring myself to play this game anymore, even though I loved it at first. I think I burned myself out with my 100 hour campaign and some of the weak pay-to-play addons.
I wonder if this will be like the Max Payne games. If so, I'm very interested. I haven't bought a shooter since Half-Life 2, as nothing has really piqued my interest, but this has my (tentative) interest.
I can't bring myself to play the game again. It was a good experience, but after 100 hours and nearly everything of note from vanilla Oblivion (+ some unofficial mod quests + some official mod quests, which were a complete waste of money!), none of this added content interests me at all. If they develop an expansion with a new region, with new landscape/architectural styles, I may buy it.
It is a great game, but sorely lacking on the story and dialogue side. Compared to the Forgotten Realms games and stuff like KOTOR, Vampire Bloodlines, and Deus Ex, the story and dialogue options are terrible. It feels like you can only role play one kind of character (dialogue-wise, not action-wise), and since I like RPGs with a lot of lore and detail, I am a bit disappointed in that respect. The main quest is really poor, and I think the only well written parts of the game were the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild sidequests.
"The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion System Requirements Lab Analysis Congratulations, your system will Rock this product! Wish we had a system that hot you lucky dog."
I wish they would make more futuristic RPGs like Deus Ex (the first one, not the atrocious sequel). Shooters are so one dimensional (even Half-Life 2 wasn't memorable), it isn't funny...
Deus Ex is my favourite PC game of all time, so despite the atrocity that was Deus Ex "2", I feel kind of saddened by the loss of Ion. I hope Deus Ex can be handed to a good developer - the series still has life if someone can revive the spirit of the original!
I'm still hooked on multiplayer and have played it since day one. However, I never did get into the expansion's multiplayer. They did SOMETHING to the weapons that really hurt them, and I didn't like the tank spam combat. I just liked the original straight forward gun vs. gun combat, especially rifles only servers.
- It's fun. - It's Half-Life 2 and HL2 maps. - Guns are cool. - Gravity gun is cool to play with. Lots of potential for new stuff.
Cons:
- Spawn spots are non-existent. Don't know how many times I spawned in the middle of a battle and died. - TDM & DM gets boring very quick. I hope they put in CTF or something.
