The $150 question: 8GB Creative Zen or 4GB iPod Nano?

Easy, iPod Nano.

Next question?

I would've liked to try this strategy game out. Unfortunately, this title is locked at an archaic 1024x768 resolution. Someone needs to inform Matrix what year we're in.

Pretty sad to fire a guy for just telling it as he sees it, which I could swear is a reviewers job.

Except when the publisher's product you're reviewing generates advertising revenue for your corporation. All this suggests that if you're looking for an honest and impartial review of a game, GameSpot is not a place where you're going to receive it.

More console news? Separate stories on significant console news?

I would like to see this happen!

Fun stuff, I may just pick this up. I used to have a lot of fun with the original MoHAA, but after Spearhead, the series just seemed to go downhill, fast.

I was surprised how well this ran on my painfully outdated system:

AMD 64 3500+
X1950 Pro (AGP) - Cats v7.7
2GB DDR (slow 200MHz PC3200)
X-Fi
WinXP Pro 32bit.

  • Game settings:

texture detals = high
model details = high
decals = high
post-processing effects = full
Running at a res 1280x1024

I'm not sure what my frame rates were, but it was pretty smooth all the way through.

Color me surprised.

I wish it still was. Either way, CM:SF is an absolute mess at the moment. A beta product released to retail that desperately needs much more development time.

Yep, Starforce protected.

No, I think you mean StarForce infected!

Tripwire really have been providing excellent support for RO, so a big kudos to them. I enjoy RO, and while I always welcome another map, I only wish it would have been an infantry only map, but that's OK. I'm looking forward to and pretty curious about what Tripwire have planned for their next title.

Back to Battlefront I go.

SSG's Battlefront is an amazing title. I just wish it had a windowed mode like GoA. While it's nice to have at least 1280x1024, that 4:3 apsect ratio stills looks horrible on a 16:10 widescreen.

Looks like there may be a game under there somewhere. Unfortunately it's locked at an archaic 1024x768 resolution (and runs in a windowed-mode if your native is higher) and good God, what an absolutely horrid interface (and I'm not exaggerating).

Fixes, many improvements and a lot of new free content. In all, very sporting of Battlefront.

this game looks way too much like Strategic Commander II
It's actually pretty similar gameplay wise. That being said, SC was a better offering than its successor, SC2.

Starforce still exists?

Rhetorical no doubt, but yes, StarForce are very much alive and well and constantly looking to expand their business. Look for it in an upcoming PC title near you.

I downloaded a copy from Matrix's site yesterday. As with all SSG's titles, it's a quality product (and a lot of fun). Their recently released land combat title, Battlefront, is also an amazing piece of software. I hope those Australian boys never stop coding these titles!
