You are absolutely incorrect. Businesses don't upgrade their OS's faster than gamers. Not by a long shot.

I am in charge of IT at a video game company, and I can guarantee you I'll have vista at home many months if not over a year before we have it on the desktops at work. Except my desktop, of course, and the desktops of IT staff, for testing purposes.

And that's a high tech game company - what do you think a bank or accouting firm is going to do? What do they need vista for?

The thing with Daikatana is it wasn't as horrible as everybody claimed it was....it was a bandwagon everyone jumped on, reviewers leading the way, to bring down the once mighty because it makes people feel better about themselves to see someones career flame-out who they feel "have it coming".

------------------

And here we go again from the other side of the coin

The game was really bad, man. It was a stink bomb. Yes, I played it. The point is, even if it wasn't SUPPOSED to be compared to half life etc... it was because it was so late. Now you can blame Eidos for some of the hype, but bet your bottom dollar Romero had a hand in a lot of it. With Daikatana, it's not just that the game was bad, of course, it was that it was bad and very very late, and the whole company fallout was very public, which gave a lot of people who shouldn't have had the chance a murky view into game development gone wrong.

Not to jump on Romero personally, that's not my style. In fact, I think he has wonderful hair. One of my co workers who worked on Daikatana tells me he was a nice guy. But the company he himself headed went tits up in a most fantastic fashion.

It is kind of sad to see Romero constantly associated with utter failure. I'd really like to see him vindicated.

And I do wonder what happened to monkeystone games ... I know they completed the red faction port to the N-gage.

you don't know squat about game development. Why don't you take a tour of one sometime, make sure to say hi to the scriptwriters, or one of the 80 other people working at a typical (small 2 project) studio.

You're both right and wrong - games take less money than a AAA movie to make, but they often take longer if you're not doing a sequel.
