Thanks Mordecai Walfish, that makes sense. Still passing, I'm usually behind the curve, on these things. I didn't even get Steam till 2011 with Dead Island's release.

It just seems the more places that have multiple data the riskier. It's probably too late to worry about personal data protection, since it's gone to shit. I wouldn't put it passed world economic collapse in the next four years. It almost happened here in the US between 2005-2007. There was a push to privatize Social Security (a moron thought he had a mandate). If it would have passed, all that money would have been gambled into the Stock Exchange before 'The Collapse'. The economy of not only the US but almost every nation would would have collapsed.

The Long Dark is still in EA, but reviews are amazing. Is the game still getting constant support?
If you scroll down, where it says early access, the most recent update was Dec 20, 2016.

Personally I would go for Black Mesa first, but this does sound interesting for a cold simulator.

Very nice, Humble. I picked this up earlier today, whilst pondering the Steam sales.

For those of you concerned about giving your Steam info, you usually have to anyway for any Humble purchase that has Steam as a requirement.
I mentioned earlier, being hesitant. Guess I hadn't bought from Humble before. It must have been other sites like Bundle Stars, which never ask for such info. When GOG offers free games, they want your Steam account so they can see what games you own. So I never took the free/matching offers. Nor have I ever given my Steam info out to anyone. I'll just wait, it's apparently $2.70 during sales, so that's reasonable. Too bad it's not CooP.

Gratz, too all they got it for free!

The only game I can HIGHLY recommend is Survivalist, now on sale for $2.49 US. It's an insanely good Zombie RPG, with a real story and actual Cause and Effect quests. It tracks Faction from how you treat individuals all the way up to Communities. This independent game could easily compete and most likely beat $20 independent titles. He did a much better job than State of Decay, just without the nice graphics. It's also better in many ways than Dead State, just without the individual personalities and Turn Based combat.

Did I mention he patched in CooP for FREE! W00t

Edit: Forgot to mention Base building and management against assaults. Not to mention Food, Water and fighting infections.

Agree with you guys, sales are pretty crappy and the same everywhere now.

Mordecai Walfish thanks for the link. FYI, turns out they are fishing for your Steam info, so I passed.

How so? From what I see you just have to create a humble bundle account, not a big deal if you want the free game. I've never bothered to make one myself.
They ask you to link your Steam account. It sounds similar to what GOG does, asking for your Steam info so they can track which games you have bought. I'm not sure, sounds like RedEye9 says it's ok?

It's not fishing, they have to do it to prevent people from reselling.

Haha, now I see your case a bit, but one day you'll see it for yourself and laugh about it too. This is really not that kind of game anymore.

The intro is an autoplaying non-interactive sequence. You can't walk around, slow down, take it in at your pace, meet people, none of that this time. In less than a minute, there's Delilah. Who kindly introduces herself right away. ”Hello, I'm Delilah and I'm going to serve as the villain in this video game. I'm super stereotypically evil and irredeemable, by the way! Enjoy!“

I think it was Carmack who once said that video games need a story as much as a porn film. No matter Bethesda's beef with him these years, whoever decided on how much narrative Dishonored 2 needs definitely agrees with that ethos.
Damn, was hoping to see a Mwahaha after your evil villain comment.

You sure might be correct about be laughing one day at the game story or lack there of. And while this isn't intended to piss you off, it might. I just have a beef with carmack and bethseda when they screw up needlessly, just like I do with myself. He also once said (paraphrasing since I don't want to look it up) "he didn't care what his fans thought, he was making games however he wanted". I my mind and others, he was needlessly arrogant about development, the way he built his engines (post quake II) and a near absolute failure at story telling. He basically mutinied and overthrew his own company from better and more qualified people pre Doom 3. The people who tried to tell him the world had moved on from the original Doom formula of jump scares and it was downhill from there.

DarkCntry, yes. They told the plot and the villain, in the PR release. The name of the villain, do you get it? No? Did you know the name of the villain in Dishonored?

NamecaF, it maybe true but what does it say about you, not even recognizing it's a spoiler? That you don't give shit about story or even more? Speaking as an idiot I wonder how that makes you feel, is it like fds who believes there's no story anymore? And is that because everything has been spoiled for you before you ever play the game?

Nin, sure there's going to be a villain just like Dishonored. Do you think, not knowing who the villain was in Dishonored, was part of the fun and impacted your enjoyment by trying to figure out the villain?

Whew, thankfully bethesda aren't a bunch of dumbasses who would post major spoilers of the game, in a press release.

What do you mean? I have reread the whole thing multiple times and there's not a hint of a spoiler in it. All it contains is a brief description of the non-interactive intro sequence at the very beginning of the game.

I think he somehow wasn't being sarcastic.

Hehe, nah, I was being sarcastic. Well a sarcastic idiot, if fds is correct. Let's see if I owe bethesda and the world an apology.

What I mean is...I read it once and it spoiled the story. Here's the quote, since apparently need to point it out.

...the mad witch Delilah seizes the throne the fate of your Empire is left hanging in the balance...

So that's not a story spoiler in a PR release? Remember just like millions of other gamers I still haven't played it. I'm not even sure what to say about fds's claim there is no story anymore. Apparently they are just levels for you to run around in. Not sure why bethesda didn't think of this before. They could have saved all the money paid for the stories, in their previous games!

Whew, thankfully bethesda aren't a bunch of dumbasses who would post major spoilers of the game, in a press release. Just cause the majority of the world's gamers haven't played it yet due to performance and drm issues. Knowing they shouldn't ruin the game for everyone, they clearly succeeded. So I praise bethesda for not being moronic idiots, when they so clearly could have been. Congratulations on your success. Urk Protest

Thanks for the heads up. I really liked the first one and have high hopes, but they were just dashed. Years now Ridley has been delusionally telling us, we should not want the original release version (US for me) because of Harrison's voice over.

Riddly "Please buy my new and improved version", we've gone back and removed some important acting narrative and immersive dialog in one of the great films of the eighties in the 20th century. He really meant it too, he fought with the studio about it. Argued and stopped working on it for years iirc, because he wanted them removed. Middlefinger

I've still never installed or played a game with this new drm. It'll take a couple years before it's proven safe enough for me after the years of bad drm. Best case scenario it's just an extra swap file, which requires more RAM. It's why there seem to be such unusual RAM requirements to comparable games without the drm. It seems if a comparable game needs 4gig, then the new drm needs 5gig.

Playing backlog and just thought I would mention it. Did anyone else find Survivalist really good Zombie RPG for under $5 US (sale price seems to be $2.49 US) I'm pleasantly surprised after an hour or two and I haven't even tried CooP yet. FYI, fast action, Top Down, with up to 3 other NPCs or players (CooP) I'm guessing. There base building and management, also an actual story. There's also actual Cause and Effect, Factions and Quests.

That actually looks pretty interesting...also that upper right window in game, with closeups, I swear the first Terminator PC game had that, back in the day, with its terrible blocky graphics. I'm not sure useful that window is, with the speed of the game, but it's not the worst feature I've ever seen.

That game looks like they should have sold it for more than 5 bucks, there's a lot of stuff going on. To the Steam Sale list it goes.
This game could easily compete with $20 US games, probably be better than most of them. Steam says I'm up to 12 hours with no intention from me of quitting anytime soon. Extremely solid game, atm the most I would do is nitpick, which is unfair at $5. There is a lot of RPG faction going on building Respect and Admiration for good characters. It's built for communities and individuals, especially since recruiting seems mandatory.

Think the window your speaking of is mostly for NPC conversations, though it's on all the time. Things like facial expressions and personal data. Everyone is Stranger, until you talk to them. This in turn adds more info about them, the more you ask or find out. Also, the PC isn't suited for all good outcomes in dialog. Sometimes you need to use NPC who has better social skills, which is not something you can raise in the game.
