Rseman,
I can appricate your last post. Probably the only one in here that made any sense... SPAM! It effects us all (I think effects is right or is it affects). Anyhow, you can help block spam in many ways. One, you might want to check with your ISP, they may have some kind of anti-spam software on their end that can be enabled. I think McAfee or Norton have anti-spam software. These consume system resources but from what I have seen work or there is always the option of changing your email address (this may not be an affordable option). I've found that the breast augmentation e-mails and penis enlargment e-mails generally are sent to you if you freely hand out your e-mail address. You may want to change your e-mail address and then get a free web address that you hand out on surveys (ex. hotmail or yahoo). Again, these are just suggestions. Some ISPs have a block list in your mail setup. You might want to check that... If you are receiving "penis" or "breast" e-mail from the same address each time, you can block it...

Hope this helps...

Oh, and I think 60Hz is plenty, and I would trust John with my games anytime, the man is bright and deserves some latitude...

Had to edit this... I had nothing in the original post!

I have one reason why 'I' think Doom 3 may be better than HL2...

Serby -
Have you seen any real requirements posted for HL2? As I understand it, with a proper video card your p4-1.6 might be fine... I could be in the dark on this though. I've also a P4-1.6 and also considered the upgrade pre-steam. Way I see it, Steam just saved me over $2000 in hardware upgrades and software.

The only thing good about Steam is it reminded me of what running Duke3D on a 386 was like...

Start the game... make something to eat... eat... take a shower... check to see if the game is ready... etc...

I've canceled my HL2 preorder. If valve wants money, they're gonna have to listen to their customers...

Hey, the Won network wasn't perfect, but I'd take it over Steam any day. At least it left decisions in my hands...

Personally I think Blizzard has it right. There is very little control or moderation of single player or LAN games. But there are undeniable benifits to playing online (esp. Diablo II). They validate keys once you've logged onto battle.net. I'm fairly savy in the warez\cracking\hacking circles and I know of no way to abuse that system short of stealing someones CD Key, at which point it is reported and banned.

Kuddos to Blizzard.

Running out of Steam...

hmmmm... seems to be alot of comments that agree with, what I thought, was my misfortune. After installing Steam, upon it's initial release, I have been able to play Half-Life and all of it's various mods a total of zero times. I am extreamly disappointed in Valve for releasing Steam in such a condition. I spend large sums of money keeping my hardware up to date and spend more time than I have to keep my software up to date and running smoothly. I also lay down serious cash every month for a T1 line, all to enhance my gaming experince. I was a large supporter of Valve and their software until Steam.

The other night, after reinstalling Steam twice (thinking I had done something wrong) and calling my ISP (wanting to know why I was having problems with my T1), I finally came to the conclusion that Steam was the problem. I voiced my disappointment in Valve, which my wife overheard. She asked why I was upset. I exclaimed, "It's this Steam engine, it's slow as hell." Ignorantly she replied, "Well, arn't they?". I smiled. Sixty seconds later I uninstalled Steam.

Valve, I'm sure HL2 will make up for all this, but you should have known better...
