I think you are having a personal PC problem, as I don't know anyone that has trouble with BF1942. We regularly play it at LAN parties with no PC issues - and these are machines across the board.

No PC problems here. Yeah, I was exaggerating the 15 minutes to get to the menu, maybe more like two minutes. I get the same thing when I try it on a friends computer, sludgy play and all. Every other game I own works fine. It's great game, just not polished.

So what now were comparing BF192 to HL2?

Putting aside the fact that Battlefield 1942 is about 3 years old now. Which in the PC game world is quite alot.

CS:Source does one thing really well, in a confined area.

Battlefield 1942 does a number of things well, in a expansive area.

And the things you gripe about, more then likely are going to be resolved in Battlefield 2; the only battlefield game that would make an ounce of sence to compare to CS:source.

Ok, let's put aside the comparison to CS:Source then. BF1942 still feels like you're playing two feet of mud, still has skipping animations and still take 15 minutes to get to the menu after hitting ESC. Saying the game is 3 years old is no excuse. It should run even better on my PC then since it's well above spec for the game.

I wasn't comparing the gameplay of the two, I was commenting on how polished one is and the other isn't.

I like them both.

BF1942 still is buggy, clunky and unpolished. I went back to playing it after getting my CS:Source fix. The player moves around like he's walking in two feet of wet mud. When firing the pistol as fast as i could, the animation skipped every other shot. It's almost impossible to shoot accurately while moving. When I hit ESC to get to the menu, I could go make lunch before it displays. Hit ESC in CS:Source and the menu is there instantly. It's still a pretty fun game when you use some type of vehicle.

AthlonXP 2600, 512megs ram, 9600XT here, latest drivers from ATI. I'm running the game at 800x600 high detail. It's as smooth as glass 95% of the time. I notice a little bit of a slowedown once and a while, but nothing that affects gameplay at all.

I started the game at medium detail but switched to high detail just to check it out. Amazingly, I noticed almost no difference in frame rate.

To those of you who keep harping on the BF1942 problems, here is a quote straight from the 52.16 release notes:

GeForce FX 5950 Ultra and GeForce4 Ti 4400, Windows XP:
Rendering corruption in Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat. This fix will be included in the next NVIDIA.com driver release.

Plus, there are about 10 other items listed.

If you guys had read the release notes like everyone is supposed to, you wouldn't be having any problems because you would have known to avoid this driver release. What I'm saying is, no one forced you to install the driver, they f'ing told you about the problem ahead of time, it's your own fault you didn't pay attention.

Read the release notes, nothing about a Ti4200 in there.

Well, the "shitty" driver works great for me. I got about "a 10-15% speed increase across the board for DX9 benchmarks. And no instability issues."

Goody for you.

"So, if you don't like the driver, why don't you quit bitching and roll back to 45.x? This new driver not working for you is not the end of life as we know it.. Or do you just like bitching?"

It seems that I'm not the only one having problems with this driver. Maybe hearing about it will save some people the trouble of installing it.

And yes, I do enjoy bitching, so stop bitching about my bitching... bitch.

I know it's not my card, it's the shitty driver.

FYI. Just installed the ForceWare drivers. It messed up BF1942 in a big way. The ground was missing half the time, textures were messed up. Time to roll back the driver.

Geforce Ti4200 BTW

Vote with your wallet.

I will not be buying HL2 until steam is no longer required to play (online or single player).

Stupid ass company forcing shitty software on me. F*ck 'em

Ahhh... Doom 3... no f*cked up software required.
