This game has fallen off my radar really fast... as content as I am with the purchase I haven't felt a strong need to go and play it anymore. I think the combat wears thin very quickly.

Maybe it's the class I'm playing, Siren, but I don't feel like I'm doing things that are very interesting. Shooting guns feels like 99% of the game and after enough time you start to want to do something else. Melee, grenades and your special powers don't seem to offer a lot in the way of variety.

Plus it's easy to get into underpowered ruts where you don't have a weapon that is fun to use and it starts to feel like grinding. Hell some of the enemies are just plain annoying like those disappearing bat/scorpion things, so when the game sends dozens of them at you and each takes a considerable amount of time to kill it just feels like you're going nowhere...

I should start a new class, I think that is the problem, as I progress I'm just not getting anything I want out of the siren class.

This game lost it's huge appeal to me around January of this year. There seems to be a point where hype just burns you out. It should have shipped during the 2011 holiday season, misses all of 2012 and now we're expecting it in 2013?

I just don't care anymore.

The previews and interviews seem to sort of dance around these topics.

I've read some folks saying that the game is more an idea than a clearly defined project at this point and from what I've read that sounds about right.

It sounds like they want to create a traditional wing commander style story/adventure/space sim but then have that campaign be built into a larger privateer style world that is online.

It's ambitious for sure, but the fact that each of the pledge bonus' involve a ship that will be used in the online portion of the game, I assume, I think the muscle of this project is to make an MMO style game that plays like guild wars 2. IE lots of content to do on your own time but then you can pay for extra things as well.

I'm not clear how each ship that you get fits into the world. If this is a privateer style game then it makes sense until they start talking about the hornet...what good is a dog fighter in a space game like privateer. Maybe I can just do search and destroy missions?

If it's a more traditional campaign then aren't the ships provided and you're part of a fighter wing?

Honestly it gets hard to keep my money in this project every day that passes...and it's only been 2 DAYS!

I think this statement is causing me the most concern:

Finally we are offering the pledge slots a discount to what the final digital price will be. Like Guild Wars 2, the basic game will be $60, but for the early backers we are offering the entry tier at $40.

The whole $60 price point is an inflated number to begin with trapped behind publishers, distributors/retailers and platform makers so they can all get a cut. So these guys are building the game outside of all of those guys, even going outside of kickstarter and yet they're still looking at this like consumers will feel justified paying them $60 when this game launches? And $30-$40 a year before anything is delivered and 2 years before the game is officially launched? (Best case)

I think these guys are trying to make money rather than trying to build something they believe in. As much a fan as I am of Wing Commander and Privateer it's painful to watch this whole thing unfold. I'm having a really hard time supporting this at the $135 level that I am currently.

This is absolutely a game I want to see made but I am almost certain that what I'm expecting and what they are going to end up making are completely different products.

The rumored dlc right after launch sounded so much better than everything they've done. Continuing the story crashed on that planet, or picking up where you see someone take a breath.

That is why we need companies who make dlc after the game launches. This stuff looks like they decided to give up making more after launch and just shaved a few missions out of the game to sell later.

So let's all settle down. Just because a portion of a game disc is locked away as DLC doesn't mean you're getting ripped off.

You can't call disc locked content dlc. DLC stands for DOWNLOADABLE Content. Calling this dlc is clearly deceptive marketing trying to make the consumer comfortable with this shitty practice. Everyone hates on disc locked content so well just call it dlc because gamers seem to like that better.

I'm kind of meh about this game. I'm sure it will be good because Rockstar has been good about these games but hard to get excited about another one.

I was hoping this game would be WoT with mechs. Its not.

The mechs I tried had a lot of restrictions on weapons. Certain areas could only one kind of weapon which is confusing to say the least. You want to remove your large laser and use a ppc? Too bad! The only weapon you can mount here is a laser! Didn't like picking my mech based on the weapons I wanted to use.

The controls also bug me, the little bubble with a line which I guess is supposed to simulate head tracking? Hate it. Just feels wrong. No matter how much I played I felt like the controls were an obstacle to enjoying the game.

Combat was dull in my opinion. Nothing feels satisfying. They try with armor that glows when hit and explosions but it just never seems to satisfy like hearing a cannon fire in WoT.

Crowd-sourcing, pre-ordering, pledging, player-as-publisher, whatever you call it has certainly had a robust beginning.

I think pre-ordering is definitely not the right word to use. Pre-ordering currently still involves paying for a game through a publisher. Publisher in general are there to push the price up so they can create a profit and they do so with retailers who also want a cut so there is another price increase.

The end result is gamers paying far more for each game that it's truly worth. The publishers are paying what hte game is really worth then they're running these massive marketing campaigns to try and "sell" consumers on the outrageous prices of most games. (some end up being worth it)

When you talk about all these other options you're talking about cutting out a ton of the middle men. No publisher mark ups, no retailer mark ups, little to no advertising dollars needed as it's largely viral and then it's digitally distributed. The end result is a product where the profits either go to the developers and the digital distribution partner or they don't exist. I think this is something consumers want and there is a LOT of demand for games made this way.

The video of that ship flying by was enough to sell me but there are several things that I'm confused about.

Not Kickstarter? - Why on earth would you crowd fund something like this outside of kickstarter? Space Sims are still a niche product so how does trying to get people off the internet in general to come and read about your game on your site net you more money than getting the HUGE variety of gamers that would see it on kickstarter. I think they're making a mistake if they are trying to keep this off kickstarter in order to avoid that 5% or whatever fee.

$30 entry - $30!? To get the game you have to spend $30 and it comes out in Nov 2014? I'm a fan of these games and while $30 is an amount I'm comfortable with spending I think you're leaving a SHIT TON of money on the table by keeping the starting price so high. I get the feeling that someone behind the scenes is obsessed with collecting X dollars per customer rather than making the best game possible. I am concered that money men are involved with this project and forcing the price to $30 to start is very concerning. I'd rather have that much more funding from people willing to give the game a try for $10 -$15 then people like me can buy into extra bells and whistles...which is another issue. Am I crazy or do the first 4 options have the same benefits?

Edit: Wait...so the $30, $35 level are both early access of sorts and are sold out already?! (which is odd since they show 5000 available and less than 300 of each have sold. So $40 is the entry level they're aiming for!?

I'm in for $125 with the refund if not fully funded box checked. The only thing I'm not clear on is changing my level because I don't know what these various ship types are. I can guess based on my privateer experience. I'm assuming the starting Aurora ship is a POS that has a single laser or something stupid like that. The Origin 300i is a bit better but still a multi role ship for combat/trading. I'm jumping on the wingnut funding option because I think I'd rather have the hornet. I'm assuming that this is "heavily" armed and fast. I can pick up a freighter later on.

I gave the demo a try and I'm happy with what I see. Not happy enough to pay $45 but it's better than I expected. I think they went a bit too far on the cut scenes. Maybe it's just the demo but at several points they just seemed annoying. When you choose to research your first tech in the demo based on this the lady scientist talks to you for 15 seconds or so about the expected results. This might be a tutorial thing and it doesn't show up in the full game as much but I noticed this kind of thing in many places. Every mission you launch you get this briefing that goes on for too long in my opinion.

Maybe all this stuff is a non issue in the full game but the demo ended before you could do even one mission without training wheels on so the end result is a wait and see feeling.

I'll keep an eye out for some GMG specials. They had a 25% off coupon that I tried to use but it said Xcom wasn't eligible.

Oh well, gotta buy something during steam winter sale right?

I can't shake the feeling that EA would rather shut down this MMO completely before they let it go F2P.

Even that free trial thing they offered up to level 15 was a badly implemented feature. You have to start a new account and I think it ends after 14 days? I was hoping to get back into the game just to see what had changed and maybe start a few new characters and run them up to 15.

But noooo, no we can't let just anyone play to 15! They're just so disconnected from reality. They're like a car manufacturer that doesn't drive. They live in a world with teleporters and hover boards or some shit like that and they're trying to build cars for people drive. It's all so predicatable to see what is going on at bioware. Nothing is going to get better. The total dollars paid out by EA to the staff at bioware will likely take a huge step down so they'll see this as a win and they'll make more money on their games in the future!

Yeah...I'm sure that is going to happen.

That new C&C title and dragon age III? This is going to be awesome to watch. Oh and I'm sure they got a few more ME3 DLC's waiting.

The game looks better with the mod. It looks a lot better. I was ready to go install it and play it again if it looked like that then DICE comes out and says they'll ban you for using that?

What this looks like is they just want to package up the existing items into one box. No changes in the retail products, just a new coat of paint for the discs and a box.

Information on PlayStation 3 DLC will be available soon.

The ps3 version of ME2 shipped with several DLC items on the disc: Shadow broker / Overlord / lost memory / Cereberus code so I'll bet the reason they aren't mentioning that is because they are just going to stay quiet about the extra content on the PS3 ME2 disc so that PC / 360 fans don't get upset that they are not getting those in this package.

Or they could be planning to create a new version of the ps3 ME2 game and remove the DLC.

I picked up a copy of ME3 for $10 on PS3 at best buy recently and I can get a new copy of ME2 for approx $15. If I buy that PSN version of ME1 for PS3 at $15 that comes to a whopping $40. Without the DLC rounding out this package $60 is just expecting consumers to pay you an extra $20 for a box. And does anyone like these fold out boxes? I'm much happier with either a case that hold multiple discs or multiple cases. These fancy paper fold out things are annoying as hell.

I'll throw in $20. I was on the fence but watching the technology demo the ships fighting in their video clip is stuff I'm all for. Big spaces ships fighting in space, we need more of that.

Just checked origin, 60% sale on many games, you buy all three on PC and they will cost $30. (right now)

But this package is $60!? If they include all the dlc then I can understand this but looking at the contents I don't see extra discs. First game is 1 disc, 2nd and 3rd game are 2 discs each, so seems unlikely.

I love the product image where is says Exclusive Artwork! It's the fucking box! Do they expect you to display it open like that on a shelf? Why can't they include a poster or something, a t-shirt. Can you get anymore barebones than this offering? We made a BOX!!! It holds all the discs!!! For only $60!? Why do you have to suck so bad Bioware? Put something in this package that makes it interesting. How about making the box big enough to hold and 8.5 x 11 artwork thing that you can frame. Make it all nice and shiny. Throw in an N7 patch. How about a keychain that looks like a sniper rifle? Doesn't the new ending have all these stills that people really liked? He here is a crazy idea, print those on high quality paper and put those in.

Jeez, these guys could learn a thing or two from kickstarter.

$60 seems laughable for this. I bought the first on on steam for $5 and the second on amazon for $7.50. Origin sales have it super cheap often seems like this is asking a lot.
