Limiting the number of reinstalls of any type of software is completely asinine. I have probably reinstalled Quake and Doom about 20 times.

It could have very easily been a case of both GSC and valve + id using the same textures from a free texture resource or a commercial texture cd, but I doubt it for two reasons:

1. id and valve have the money and talent to create all of their assets.
2. the filenames of the textures are identical.

The only other possible, yet unlikely, scenario would be that all three developers hired the same contractor who lazily reused the same art.

When I first read the interview, I thought John was being sarcastic about the Carmack thing, but according to an update on Romero's blog (rome.ro) the interviewer screwed up on a couple of things.

I'll make a quick comment and say the best thing you can do for your health is to educate yourself about food and how your body works (not from diet books or muscle magazines, though). Start by looking up "nutrition" in an encyclopedia.

I'm glad I didn't buy this game (Not that I was going to, I stopped buying MP oriented games after Quake 3).
Stats are nothing but evil. Stat-based games bring out the greedy, materialist sides of people who play them. When is the last time you played a mmorpg for the entertainment value and not for the desire to level up so you can wear that lvl 60 armor? Sure, BF2 isn't a mmorpg, but I can bet that most of the people who play it do so in the ranked servers simply for the stats.

/Used to be a runescape addict a long time ago, until I saw the light.

There are humorous things you might see, such as hidden UAC crates

Hidden UAC crates aren't humorous.

I'm not too sure I would want to work at id after reading Masters of Doom. About 1/3 of the people who worked there were either fired for silly reasons or left after making 1 or 2 games. I also think id has too many owners for such a small business, and none of them, especially Carmack, appear to have a clue about how to deal with people.

The gamespot quake4 trailer properly shows red where the blue is, almost as if someone flipped the color channels or something.

I'm not impressed at all. WTF is this supposed to be? Some kind of multiplayer-only Quake 4?

Randy Pitchford: This game is different for us as in the past we`ve always been influenced by movies or books or TV or even other games.

This game is influenced by real life.

Looks like a Band of Brothers rip off to me. Hell, even the name is similar. Mohaa took scenes straight from saving private ryan and COD used enemy at the gates. I doubt this one will be any different.

Hey, Does anyone know an easy way or program to schedule a program to close after X amount of time

Programs> accessories> system tools> scheduled tasks

Click on "add scheduled task" and select whatever you want to run, when you want to run it, and so on. After you do that double click on the scheduled task you just created and under the settings tab hit click "stop task if it runs for: x hours x minutes" and set that to whenever.

So, what happens if the authentication server gets DDOS'ed? Or what if valve splits in 3 years and you need to reauthenticate after a HDD crash/reinstall?
