Creative makes good cards, but creative is a pain for thier driver updates. Any driver update for my Audigy 2 card still requires me to locate my original disk and install those drivers first then the updates. most annoying, with todays high speed connections I wish they would give me a ONE file download so i could take the original disk and make it a coaster.

I just did a clean install of Windows XP Pro. All I did to update my Creative lab Audigy driver is do the auto update on the creativelab support page. I got the drivers without it asking me for the CD.

Also, since I dont recall this being brought up yet at least in this funked up thread.
It seems like ATI will have moderate performance across several of thier cards with Doom 3, at least until they can get some time with the game to tune thier drivers.
Shouldnt someone be mentioning the peformance of the other NVidia cards except the newest 6800 series.
Basicly 6800 was built around Doom 3 cause the older cards couldnt perform.
Im more worried about all the NVidia customers out there that CANT afford the newest card, why isnt NVidia saying anything about them or helping them?
I truly hope they are not sol, NVidia has screwed up so much in the past 1 to 2 years, at least teh last 2 chipsets, anyway.
Thats why I went to ATI after 5 or 6 NVidia cards, I was just tired of being screwed.
I dont like the way ATI handles thier drivers at all, ie the idea they actually spend time trying to fix crapy games like Tomb Raider instead of fixing OpenGL but after being a lied to and cheated by NVidia, I can stand a little frustration.

Its like would you want to be involved with/date and spend money on someone who lies and cheats you or would you rather be with someone who is just frustrating

What are you taking about? ATI lies as much as Nvidia. There is no honesty in either of those companies. You just buy the hardware for your gaming, all they care about is your money :P. My 9800XT is great buy (last year). But now Nvidia is starting to take the lead again. No big loss for me I get whatever is best for my $500. At the time when I bought a 9800 XT it was the best for my $500. Now the tides have turned and it's ATI who is losing the benchmark wars. Lets not foget ATIs new policy of trusting ATI on their trilinearing filtering optimization that has no impact in gaming performance. That's why we won't allow the user to disable them to see for themselfs Trust me they lost a sale right there 3Dc is probably going to meet the same fate as trueform. A few games will support it then it's R.I.P.

The first time Doom III was demoed it was shown in macworld tokyo on a GeForce III ( http://www.insidemacgames.com/news/story.php?ArticleID=2175 ). Nvidia designed the NV40 with what carmack wanted for his game. ATI ALWAYS had crappy OpenGL drivers this is well known. Nvidia is king of OpenGL and Linux. Probably going to take the lead in DirectX too by the way their drivers are improving with each revision. I'll be making the switch back to Nvidia in the fall anyways The NV 40 was the saving grace for Nvidia and they sure fired back with an awesome card.

It's an ATI issue. Download the CAT 4.5 beta drivers from Guru3D and you can be glitter free.

Just fine them to death. It's worse than the death penalty because they can't pay it back! How do you think credit cards companies are making such huge profits

I think EA dissolved Westwood studies. Microsoft is a multibillion dollar company that is making money of their popular OS and not just games. Piracy hurts small companies not big multibillion dollar companies. Once the DRM hardware comes out this won’t be a huge issue because people must upgrade their PC to play better games. I think they raise the prices to make maximum profits in the beginning before the widespread pirating over the internet. Games were much cheaper around $40 for a AAA when I was a little kid. Now with the advent of the internet it’s hard to police.

We will be all playing Half-Life II if hackers didn’t decide to copy the source and make is widespread across the internet.

It's a DX 8.1 game from what I have read. There is no pixel shader 2.0 in DirectX 8.1, but can run older pixel shaders fine.

These drivers work fine on my AMD system with BF1942 Remember not all hardware are alike. Just like there are lots of ATI 9XXXX users that can't play Counter-Strike properly. ATI can't replicate this problem so they don't bother. That's one reason why I stick with Nvidia. From looking at the stats, the most popular FPS is counter-strike

Did you read about the leaked sourcecode for Half-Life II? It has TONS of ATI optimizations on it

You also forgot to mention that running the lower path won't make an visual difference because, Carmack is GOD!

Works fine for GeForce 2 GTS on Windows XP Maybe you need to clean install your OS? I used to have problems like that with ATI. A good format usually solves it most the time.

During those years before the release they made money of the source by selling it to other developers for their games. Now the people who stole the sourcecode can get a general idea how it works without paying them to use their code or get ideas from.

This theory is running rampant amoung the ATI fanboys. ATI is the company that released the Quake III Alpha. Hell it's probably an ATI employee that probably leaked it I doubt Half-Life II alone will destroy Nvidia. Nvidia has Doom III in their belt.
