Not all states have all legal protections. In some states employers can ask you for a FB password - most states actually. What they see when they go there, though, can get tricky as to whether or not they can really use it - so I doubt many companies are doing this.
The privacy protections in the US are actually pretty poor.
BYOD is a big problem for IT so remote wipe is kind of necessary in a lot of environments.
