What you should be asking yourself is what will Vista give me that XP does not. Right now the answer to that question is essentially less functionality though strict DRM enforcement and DirectX 10. Should you have to pay Microsoft for that when you have already bought XP?
Are you serious?
Why has it become so popular in recent years to dump on Microsoft and Windows?
Of course it has security flaws. When you have a few hundred thousand people world wide attempting to find flaws around the clock in the most used operating system in the world, you're going to find security flaws.
What does Vista give you that's better than XP?
Well the big one for me (since I've been using Vista in various beta forms and RC forms for months), is the lack of reboots.
- Install applications and update drivers, no more reboots.
- Hardware or driver crashes do not result in BSOD. Video card crashes, the HAL resets it and you go along your marry way. Try this the next time Oblivion locks your XP box.
- Security, security security. All these A/V companies complaining they don't have access to the Kernel. The whole reason 98 and ME were so unstable is all the terrible programming of all the software that gets installed. You don't get access to the Kernel because you don't need it.
Do some research. Vista is a great operating system and a much needed step up from XP (which is also a great O/S).
