Yeah, me, I always thought Soul Reaver was a uber-duper game. Well, ok I didn't play it much, but I heard lots of good things about it (and enjoyed the SR2 demo), whilst the Tomb Raider series was sucking hard since after the second one. Good luck to Crystal Dynamics. And hopefully Core will start developing titles that don't suck anymore.

I'm new to the whole forum thing, so bear with me a moment - but post 4 would go down as fanboyism, would it not?

On a related note: I'm looking forward to both Stalker and Far Cry. I think they're titles which share some common points (they're both indevelopment by new game houses and with unique technologies), but I think they're games that aim at different ends of the FPS spectrum.

If the physics in Half Life 2 are as interactive and free-form as they seem to be then Half Life 2 will be a pretty original game. I'd also say that it would be a more fundamental change and a strong more defining innovation like HL1's 'story' was. Remember how after HL was released everyone tried to infuse a story in their games, with characters and plot developments and the terrible terrible dialouge, (but then, they never really had a chance, marc laidlaw is a full-blown novelist). I reckon that's the kind of innovation that creates change. Baby steps but very fundamental and intergrated into the gameplay expirience.

But then if you look at other games, like Deus Ex for example, or Stalker, you see that they are doing something else, they're taking existing ideas and merging them. Stalkers open-endedness has been floating about for a while now, and of course Deus Ex is a unique type of subgenre FPS-RPG fusion done right by only one single, loveable smurflike creature that likes to be called Warren Spector. :).

So yeah, to put it quite bluntly, I disagree.

Here's to Bill and his pals! Sounds to me like they made a daring, narrow, Indiana Jones style escape from a Blizzard that's about to get thrown to an evil overlord of a publisher. As much as I'm sad for Blizzard I'm happy for them, because I know they'll make some good games. As for them being 'star developers' and going on to release crap, I'm not so sure, after all Bill Roper is a expirienced producer, not a designer in that sense, and I certainly doubt that he is some sort of Romeroesque individual with his head in the clouds.

Hmmm, sounds cool, and I like the look of the screens, I'll indeed definetly buy this if I get a kick out of the gameplay itself. But something tells me they're taking this whole thing too seriously, and that just doesn't fit into what is a pretty thin universe. They could have just left out the whole NOLF thing and made a Pulp Fiction style game set in the seventies or something. That would have been cool, but I guess they didn't want to make the effort.

Yes, online gaming journalism sucks, but hasn't it always?

Far Cry looking good... hopefully it will resist the tendency of titles by obscure developers to suck.

Had a look at some screenies, and geez, it's not a very pretty game. I guess this goes into the budgetware category along with Chaser and such.

Hello!

I do not agree the undead have any business in Thief. I think they kinda kill the atmosphere of the whole 'infiltrate mansion/other type of building and then steal goods under peoples noses' I have no problems with fantasy in the sense of technomagical devices and such, but the undead, well, they were an annoying facet of the gameplay that made up Thief.
