From that comment, it sounds like it's still at the embryonic stage. For his sake, he'd better hope it doesn't jump out and tear his face off.

After reading about this somewhere, I think a Penny Arcade, I tried it. My gameplay was a total failure. Note I'm blaming myself, not the game. Something was wrong; I think due to an incompatibility with the system I was on not everything was properly functioning. All I could do was walk, jump and break blocks - literally nothing else. Definitely wasn't right. Breaking blocks was moderately entertaining for five minutes, which sounds kind of pathetic haha, but I was definitely missing something somewhere. No buttons did anything, just block breaking.

I quit quickly and forgot to go back on a non-netbook. I'll try it tonight. Everyone I've talked to has had cool experience, and I didn't, either because the netbook was messing up or because the experience on a 10" screen was so disappointing that I didn't bother reading some documentation and going back.

There are different versions to try - the survival version has the nasty critters - http://www.minecraft.net/survivaltest/

There's multiplayer too, but I haven't tried that yet.

Folks, like the story says, don't confuse this crappy "Acclaim Games" that did no development of their own but rather just had publishing rights of those asian mmo, with the legendary "Acclaim Entertainment" that created such gems as NBA Jam, Turok and Mortal Kombat(1 and 2)

Not to mention Castlevania IV. The aim of that game wasn't to smite nor to maim, but to stake through the heart an eternal undead fart, whose claim to fame, other than his name, was a penchant for blood, sucked from victims, unwilling or game.

Not in the game they don't, it's guns only. Maybe that's why it failed..

News Comments > 130,000 APB Players
16. Re: 130,000 APB Players Aug 24, 2010, 17:22 sir

IIRC the game, as it ships, allows you to play for 90 hours in the action districts, after which you have to pay through the nose for more play time. The average APB junkie would tear through those 90 hours in about a week, because in that game power leveling = bigger, better, badder guns to own the nubs with.

What a sorry state of affairs. I played in the closed beta of the game and found it to be enjoyable but very newbie unfriendly, which is what probably killed it for many of the reviewers, who undoubtedly spent most of their time having their asses handed to them in shotgun cartridge sized portions.

Nice looking game. It should do well in the UK and Europe, and in America it will sell about 3 copies.

1. Billy Mitchell takes back Donkey Kong records. Aug 12, 2010, 17:44 sir

When I was at uni 20 odd years ago, I set a high score of 1,965,000 for the vertical shoot 'em up, Xevious. It took me well over two hours to set it, and my eyes were streaming when I finished. I always wondered if that was anywhere near the world record, but it turns out the world record is seven(!) million.

Excellent demo. What with this game and Starcraft 2, PC gaming is in a really happy place right now. And for anyone not wanting to 'spoil' their enjoyment of the full game, there is a disclaimer at the start that states that the demo scenario won't be in the full game, and is just there for, err, demo purposes.

1. Wikipedia’s Lamest Edit Wars Aug 9, 2010, 10:28 sir

I only ever tried to edit a Wikipedia article once. Well, several times actually, but that's the point that the above linked article gets across so vividly. The obsessive shitehawk who maintained the Falklands War page on Wiki kept deleting my addition of a band and song to the "Cultural Impact" section, to the point where I got fed up and started adding gibberish just to piss him off. So if you're bored and have nothing to do at the moment, feel free to copy "Spear of Destiny - Mickey" and paste it multiple times over in the pertinent section of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_impact_of_the_Falklands_War

Who knows, maybe the inflexible twit might relent and actually do some research to discover that it was arguably the most significant musical lament to arise from that brief little spat in the Southern Atlantic.

Hang on in there, Blue. The death of someone close can have a strange effect - after the death of my dad I became addicted to MMoRPGs, although that was obviously out of a need to find a distracting 'happy place' rather than an overwhelming desire to bash rats on the head.

Ah, but as the article points out, the dirty Brits passed on Starcraft 1, which never even broke top-40 in the UK, so it's not that amazing.

You've misread the post - the article states that the game didn't manage to top the top 40, i.e. get to number one, but from what I recall, it was a massive hit in the UK during 1998, certainly one of the biggest sellers.

Sorry to hear of your loss Blue. My own father was a heavy smoker and a heavy drinker who died at the relatively young age of 59 from a heart attack, to which his two vices undoubtedly contributed. As a result I'm a 90% teetotal, 100% smoke-free bloke, whose only real vices are videogames and a certain website that caters to them. But as nin said, take some time out if you need it, we'll all be here when you get back.
