odd looking at gamerankings. fear is going down slightly and q4 goes up slightly. i knew fear would recieve generally high scores across the board but after hearing of the pcgamer review i was worried quake 4 was gonna be a disappointment.
i was wrong tho, i'm really loving it. i've played it alot more than fear so far but thats mainly because i played the awesome fear demo about 30 times. q4 is much newer to me i guess.
honestly tho, i love the war theme in a sci-fi setting. no matter how awesome cod2 looks, i just cannot get past the old ww2 weapons/theme anymore. my personal pc game collection i have several ww2 themed shooters, and i'm sure its much less than other people have, it just got so stale to me.
thats part of the reason i loved doom3 as much as i did. sure i can see people's complaints and understand them fully. i share some of them. but i played thru doom3 2 times, the expansion 2 times and i still load it up and play thru a level here and there at least once a month. i dont even do that to hl2! after the gimmick of the physics is played out and u have seen all the real-world like locations, i find the combat dull and the AI boring. and i refuse to play any level with your so-called "squad". talking about horrible design choices. i keep it installed but mainly just to show peeps how great looking it is and how well the interaction is.
only thing i dont like about q4 is that its far chuggier than doom3. its to be expect because u can see that all the geometry(indoors) is far more complex altho outdoors is fairly blocky(not overly so). i have seen levels so far that have had beams and wires and all kinds of animation all over the place and its a site to behold. plus the characters have far more detail and there always alot of chracters on screen. look at doom3's models. most have only a thumb and index finger that are seperate and they look kinda chunky. in q4 everyone has 5 fingers and they are rounded. i found that impressive. small attention to detail like that puts me in the game more.
running a contant 60 fps in doom3 at 1280 in high settings going to around 40 is a pain tho:(
