It's terrible that videogames are making kids into bullies. I mean, there's never been bullies before in the history of mankind...

It's rare, but I've seen bad previews. PCGamer's preview of Ghost Recon 2, for example.

Yeah I dealt with StarForge for Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.

It didn't seem to cause me any problems. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Anyway, Romero: He's making PC games again? Last I read he was doing stuff for PDAs and cellphones.

A little bug for sure and certainly not game-stopping, but it just shows how bad EA's/Dice's QA process is. This is by far the buggiest game I have ever played. Shit, to even get it to install I had to reboot into SAFE MODE. And installing 1.12 on a new copy is a crapshoot, you never know how it's going to turn up. EA is lucky that this game is actually fun - if it wasn't, myself and I'm sure many others would have given up a long time ago. I'm just resigning myself to not buy any "booster" pack until the core game is fixed.

I'm not going to argue that BF2 isnt' buggy (it is), but the buggiest game?

Did you ever play Daggerfall?

I just think I found the article. It's from a post on slashdot.

Seems that someone who claims to have taken part in the "Los Angeles SWG research focus group" yesterday has posted details about the 2 hour session.
From their post:
"The discussion began with a round-robin introduction and telling what we felt the best and worst aspects of Galaxies are. Then the real discussion began. The moderator brought out three pamphlets. One, which I believe was entitled Paths To Power, outlined the implementation of a Dark Side/Light Side path a la KOTOR, for every profession. It also went into detail about re-doing missions as either side and seeing the different view on things, different abilities for each, etc. The group was very much interested.

The second was entitled "The Galactic Civil War" and I'm sure you can imagine what it outlined: bringing the GCW back to prominence. It discussed controlling Star Destroyers and Blockade Runners, but also seemed to deadlock players as either Imperial or Rebel. The third outline basically discussed morphing Galaxies into Battlefront II, complete with having iconic characters not only immediately available during your mission, but for you to be able to -- yes, you're actually reading this -- play as movie characters. The group was not pleased. Then he told us that these were possibilities for expansion packs, not publish updates.

The final question/topic was whether we'd choose any one of the pamphlet outlines to add to the game, or if we'd prefer for them to work on bringing things back that were taken out. As soon as he was done talking, the group said "Rollback" almost as one. The moderator seemed like he saw that coming, because he'd probably heard the term a dozen times already from the other groups.

So there you have it. They're either going to continue the trend of "Expansion Packs aren't necessary (nudge nudge wink wink)", or, if they go by what the focus group asked, we will see a rollback of some degree. The number one issue brought to the moderator when he asked about the biggest negatives in Galaxies was the lack of diversity in professions and the overwhelming letdown that was the NGE for people like musicians, creature handlers, smugglers, etc. He was finishing sentences for us because he had obviously heard quite a bit about it in the previous groups. THAT'S ALL FOLKS"

Just take it out back and shoot it. For the love of God.

Yeah, there isn't much reason to rollback. The original design was ambitious, but they never figured out how to fix it and just mucked it up.

That certainly doesn't sound very good. I remember Morrowind running like a dog for me till I got a ... wait a second, it still runs like a dog. Hope Oblivion visited the optimization shrine a bit more often.

Morrowind ran like a dog until you got the NOCD version that stripped out whatever shitty copy protection they were using back then, which literally made the game run like 30 to 40% slower. With tweaking of the settings, I was able to play Morrowind on a Pentium II 333mhz / Voodoo 3 system.

DDO is easily the biggest MMORPG let down in recent memmory. Talk about taking a huge franchise and throwing it away.

What about Matrix Online, a game which gave it's players 2 or 3 free three-week passes to give to other players in hopes that they would stick around afterwards and keep playing the game? Didn't that game sell like 15,000 copies?

An MMO doesn't have to have WOW-like success to be successful. Let's say that Turbine only gets, oh, 75,000 subscribers on DDO. That's still $1,124,250 a month. Sure you can say "only 75000 subscribers when WOW has 5 million" but it's still greater than what they need for it to be successful.

The game is normally $50. It's like $40 at Target. Collector's Edition is $60.

Monthly fees are $14.99 a month.

Yeah I just went there and asked it "What happened to Jeeves?"

I don't think I've every used askjeeves seriously. I have, however, loaded up ask jeeves and asked it stupid questions.

Another company to port Asian MMOs?

Sometimes the game industry makes me sad, like when I found out the founder of SSI is the guy who runs IGE.

I would love to see the film based nearly entirely on the prince... there would be minimal dialogue, a lot of action and climbing, minimal mood setting music, etc - it would be a real change from your typical Holywood pap. Otherwise it's just playing off the PoP brand.

That's why I'm kind of scared at what the Metroid movie is going to end up as...

DDO and LofRO are by two different teams and use very different designs. From what I've read, LOTRO is more like AC/AC2 than DDO.
