Patch is coming out tomorrow.

They released a press release saying that they are working on it and don't know when it will be out.

During our standard final processing of the 1.4 client update we came across an issue that, although it does not compromise stability, we felt needed to be addressed in order to meet our goal of improving the overall player experience with Battlefield 2.

http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/editorial.jsp?src=communityupdate_081506

However, if we change that 15 to 16 and load up the page, we get this:

Community Update - 8/16/06

Attention Soldiers!

With the release of the 1.4 patch we have made significant improvements to player and server stability as well as introduced more ranked content for players to enjoy. Along with the many bug fixes we have included the new map "Road to Jalalabad" which is sponsored by Comcast making this patch is an excellent step forward for the Battlefield Franchise. We would like to thank everyone who helped support the Beta effort. Please take a moment to review the fix list for this patch:

I can't wait for the inevitable 'autopsy' article on this game, or maybe a VH1 'Behind the Music' style show so we can find out just what the testers for this game were on. I'm betting on ketamine-laced Red Bull.

It's simple.

The game was developed by DICE Sweden (the main team)
As soon as it was launched, it was given over to DICE Canada

So, DICE Canada not only had to deal with fixing the bugs, they had to completely learn the codebase of how the game works. DICE Sweden, meanwhile, worked on fixing the major issues in the engine for use in BF2142 (load times, server browser, etc).

the performance was pretty weak considering the quality of the graphics

I just checked out their website and apparently there was (is?) an issue where some people's computers are getting really subpar performance.

Just an fyi.

Freelancer, apparently. It was a good game if you look past no joystick support and realize that it's not a real spaceflight sim but rather an arcadey game in space.

Thank god they're finally getting rid of the worthless current honor system and going with something that isn't based on the user not taking bathroom breaks.

1) Combat is hitting a number key and watching your guy attack. So damn boring

You know a lot of the upcoming MMOs are changing this, right?

Every time I hear about this idea, I have to look into it. I mean, making it so their source of revenue stream is selling items is brilliant...

then I realized that in this instance, you have to pay the monthly fee anyway.

If you're going to charge a monthly fee, do it.
If you're going to sell items to generate money, do it.
Don't tack both into a monthly fee and call it revolutionary.

Although the fact that they can't just throw tons and tons of money into the system at one time and instantly get a ton of items/money is probably a good idea

I can't believe this. Trying to imply it's a free booster when it's just a free patch. Damn lazy devs.

Oh wait.

I dig the free trial. I'm too afraid to throw $20 on another game just to find out that it's not my cup of tea.

And every time they tell me that 2142 won't be buggy like BF2, another red slap mark appears on my face. How odd...

All I can say is "sigh"

An exclusive in-game item for use while playing the game - a personal AT-RT vehicle as seen in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith(TM);

Obsidian should burn in hell for what they did on Kotor 2

No.

LUCASARTS should burn in hell for what they did on Kotor 2. You know, the one where the president of the company said "it is unacceptable for a game to slip in its release date for any reason".

You underestimate the significance of onslaught mode. It is radically different from anything in UT2003, and the fact that it was and still is by far the most popular of UT2004's modes played online demonstrates that. It's no mere team deathmatch addition to deathmatch or even something like instagib.

Onslaught is pretty badass.

Episodic games are all about reusing game content to deliver a shorter game experience for a lower price. Game developers like it because it allows them to have more products to sell to the consumer over the same period of time than if they were developing a traditional full length title. What Marc is saying is that because these episodic titles are competing against full length games for the consumer's attention, they don't stand a chance. At the episodic games' current price point I agree with him because the consumer can find plenty of full length games selling at the same or lower ptices than the episodic ones.

I'm not sure I agree with the reusing game content comment, but we'll have to see how different it is when HL2:EP2 and Sin episodes 2 come out. HL2:EP2 is supposed to be pretty different from HL2 and HL2:EP1 (since EP1 is pretty similar to Half Life 2). Sin episodes, we'll see. Then again, Sin episodes had the tagline "and everything... EXPLODES!" so what can you expect there.

Not to mention that with Vista, Microsoft is going to be doing a big marketing push to try to get people more used to the idea the PC as a gaming platform.
