I'm pretty sure the same information is available directly on the Might and Magic website (http://www.mightandmagic.com/uk/ ):

- Added a new "Hardcore" difficulty mode
- Re balanced NPCs strength & health on the second half of the game for all difficulty modes
- Added an intermediary "Texture" setting between "Medium" & "High". (etc.)

Dune perhaps? No? Okay, yeah, that's very improbable. I really liked Emperor though

I would pay close to an infinite amount of money for that, if it ever came out. Emperor still is my favorite game of all times...

nin:

They should. And if it's like the IBMs and Dells I work on, their should be updates on their web site. Newer BIOS upgrades can sometimes be available in ISO (that you burn to a cd and boot) or even an exe you can run from within Windows...

Ok, just checked their website and found bios and chipset updates; I'll try and see how it turns out.

Enahs:

Is your laptop running of battery power when the stuttering occurs?

Nope.

If that is not it, try it on a regular PC and see if it occurs.

Good idea, hadn't occurred to me yet.

Once again, thanks for all the help guys.

What about a BIOS upgrade? It's a long shot...

Haven't tried that yet, though I'm not sure if that's even possible on my laptop (it's from Acer, and don't they have some sort of propietary BIOS of their own?)

Do the Creative drivers require any certain version of Direct X (for Directsound)? What version is your DX on the laptop? (Start, Run dxdiag)...

Well, I've got directx 9.0c, which is the newest version I believe, so I don't think that could be it.

Thanks for the ideas though! (And please let me know if you think of anything else)

I'll try and see, though, what kind of BIOS I've got.

I'd like to ask your guys' help in solving a bit of sound issue with my laptop:

A couple months ago, I bought an external usb soundcard, namely the Audigy 2 NX from Creative (I know, I know; I shouldn't have bothered with them). Now, I've installed all the new drivers and such (and made sure the onboard soundcard on my laptop is disabled) but everytime I play a song, about 3-4 times (depends on the length) the sound will stutter - just a tiny little bit, but after a while it really starts to annoy me.

Now, I've tried playing music with something other than Creative MediaSource (Ok, I guess that's another strike against me) - for instance foobar2000 - but it doesn't solve anything. I'm thinking maybe the soundcard isn't connected at fully usb 2.0 speed (which my laptop does support) - but supposedly creative's newest drivers fixed any usb 2.0 problems. So now I'm wondering if I can force my laptop to use extra buffering on the soundcard - does anyone know how, or have any other/better suggestions?

Edit: I'm also pretty sure it's not my speakers, either; my Logitech Z-something or other work just fine with my regular pc.

Okay, but I was also exercising and eating sensibly and I looked and felt fabulous. Yes, I *know* the supplements had little to do with it. But I stopped taking them and low and behold fell into my old slovenly ways and now I'm a fatso again. I was in a certain mental state for awhile, and then suddenly I wasn't.

I can completely relate to this. During the summer, I was able to get myself in a certain mental state where I was exercising and lifting weights about 2-3 times a week - I don't think I've ever felt more healthy and better overall on a daily basis. Thing is, though, once college started again, I couldn't seem to find the time anymore. (Well, I probably could if I wanted, it's just that there are other things I want to spend my time on)

There is but one drink that is sweet nectar of the gods; that is both good for you and tastes great.

As someone living in the Netherlands, I've got to say Belgian beer is the only real nectar there is (don't know if it's even available in the US or UK). I don't drink caffeïne (at least not on a daily basis), hardly ever drink any soda, eat healthy almost all of the time, but I'll be damned if I don't get my one or two beers in the evening.

Have to agree here, summer was wayyy too long. Not only can I not wait to start college again, also autumn brings out the best in beer (don't know if any of you americans have heard of the variety Bock beer; it's a special sweetened beer with brown sugar that's only sold during the fall season).

Thanks for the credit, Batman

I was wondering if you were still reading that thread or not, luckily you were. I'm usually about 6 hours off on the updates, living in the Netherlands and all.

Anyway, glad to be of service.

The movie you are referring to is called "Ordinary Decent Criminal" with Kevin Spacey (not Bruce Willis):

No, you misunderstood what I was saying. I didn't say that all of Holland's criminals came from Surinam, I'm saying that ALL of Surinam's criminals are being sent to Holland, one way airfare paid by the Surinam government.

Sorry if I initially misunderstood. What you say is pretty much true yeah, although Surinam isn't the only one. The Antillian Islands have a similar deal worked out, although luckily the dutch government at the moment is trying it's hardest to wiggle itself out of that one.

I'm SO sad I left. {/sarcasm}
Considering the fact that I'm going to college right now, I'm DEFINATELY not sad at all about being in the Netherlands. I think you'll find it very hard to find a country that supports and stimulates college-going students as much as the Netherlands; where you get a monthly student's social security from the government, just for being enrolled, and where college enrollment fees are vastly less expensive than e.g. the U.S.

Oh yes, and ALLLLLLLL the joy that comes with it. You DO realise that Surinam is a bottomless pit for money, right?

While this is (mostly) true today, it hasn't always been like this. Up until the sixties/seventies, Surinam was being exploited quite efficiently by the dutch (however morally debatable that may be). Many of the current railroads in the Netherlands were built off of the revenue the dutch government made from their Surinam and Indonesian colonies.

Also, by saying that ALL of the Netherlands' criminals come from Surinam, you are most definately overgeneralizing. Today, less than half a million people inhabit Surinam (a country that is vastly larger than the Netherlands itself); only a small percentage of this emigrates to the Netherlands . At the same time there are about 300 000 criminals living in the Netherlands; the numbers just don't add up. The truth is, most criminals come from a combination of Morrocco, the Antillian islands, Surinam and then of course the Netherlands itself.

We (the dutch) traded what would become New York for frigging SURINAME!!
Every dutchman still shudders at that memory...

On the contrary; this, at the time, was not a stupid move whatsoever. Surinam was considered to be vastly more valuable than the tiny piece of land dubbed New Amsterdam; it was far richer in natural resources, for one thing. Also, looking back in retrospect they (the dutch) made a very wise decision; for about a hundred years after the 'deal', the American colonies gained their independance. No doubt the inhabitants of New Amsterdam would've also claimed their independance from The Netherlands, in which case the dutch would've lost New Amsterdam. Surinam, however, remained under dutch control until well into the 20th century.

For these reasons I, as a dutchman, do not shudder at this 'memory'.

Yes, it has been well known to the author of that site that his has been blocked on some corporate firewalls, under that exact criteria: tasteless.

Which is why he posted the following after finding out about this:

Since Websense has decided to block my site, I've decided to block Websense for a change. That is, I've blocked the entire company and all its employees from ever visiting my site again.

Really? And what, pray tell, is this so-called "hidden" agenda?

Being a history student, I've got to say that at this point I think you're ignoring some important facts. Most terrorist leaders are well educated people who are far from starving; their terrorist activities are mostly centered around the spreading of the pan-Arabic ideology; something which was just mentioned here, namely the founding of a unified Islamic empire (this ideology goes back to world war I and the Hussein-MacMahon correspondance, and later gained in popularity with Egypt's Gamal Abdal Nasser in 1952).
