Heavy snowfall tied to higher heart attack risk in men.

Yea, cause we're the ones shoveling it all! Try living in the snow belt of upstate NY. News says 'New England hit by a massive snow storm today, as much as a foot of snow'. Meanwhile I'm out shoveling 6 feet of it and bitching about what New England considers 'snow fall'.

In truth its been a pretty light year for snow but in the snow belt (an area of northern new york that stretches from rochester to syracuse and water town), a foot of snow is what we call 'a light dusting'.

$630 original price. This is apple, which means if that software were on other platforms the total price would probably be about $250. They are doing this deal because they are rapidly losing art students to other software and hardware manufacturers.

I like how he can wall-ride the terrain for some reason.

Does it on OW too. Although I've only seen it on the map with the bottomless pit in the center of the capture point. Rides around the wall until he can get out. Think I'll try it on other walls next time I play.

Looks weird seeing him in HotS where the animations are not nearly so fluid.

Yea it does, but also because the movement speed in that game is so much slower.

As to Lucio, I play him quite a lot and there are tuns of maps that have trick ways to wall-ride to get around the map. One of my biggest clutch plays ever was with Lucio on Lijiang Tower, Garden map (that has that central circular hub and a lot of open pits). I was pushing high gold, trying to break into Diamond in Season 2. I'm on that map and we're fighting a really good team, like trading wins until the last chance, either of us would win if we took the last map.

Anyway we get it to 99% in a constant back & forth then they get it to 99% and at that moment kill everyone else on my team. They start to celebrate before realizing the meter wasn't rising. I was in the central area riding high up on the wall but still technically holding and there are 2 others in there with me who just don't realize I'm up there. Soon enough someone spots me but I manage to stay on the move and alive long enough that my team returns, we kill or kick them all out and take it.

Sadly because of the way the PotG works, roadhog or someone got it, but everyone was like 'OMG CLUTCH GJ LUCIO!' and bing.. Diamond Tier. I was riding high.

I went back and forth between mid-high gold and low diamond for the last few weeks of S2 and then S3 hit and I got placed in bronze for some reason ( is like 'we need to spread people out). I thought it'd be super easy to work back up but turns out when I asked 'what tier was everyone last season' most the people replied gold so I was playing against the same group at the same skill level just being called 'bronze'. Fuckin blizzard right?

I've enjoyed my time with Stellaris but once you get to a certain point the game feels extremely empty of anything to do but go to war, and even that isn't that fun. While pretty, the the combat is just a boring numbers game. If your number is higher than their number, you win.

5. Re: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns Content Next Week Feb 1, 2017, 13:14 Fion
I agree HoT has its moments, some of them are pretty awesome. The Mastery system is fantastic and really gives you a sense of growth without tacking on a simple level grind like way to many MMO expansions. Living World S3 has been largely fantastic as well. Adding tuns of new and classic areas to explore, 'end-game content' to participate in if you enjoy that kind of thing via the new raid wings.

GW2 has never been perfect, it's always had weird developer decisions bogging it down, the expansion probably wasn't worth the price tag at launch, the markets got all screwy after its launch because of the ascended tier gear needed for the raid (though it's settled down and there are varying ways to get ascended gear now).

But that said, I'll always hold GW2 as one of the finest modern MMOs around and the even stream of new content that's free for concurrent players and not that costly to purchase afterword really makes the price of admission worth it.

3. Re: The Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind Announced Feb 1, 2017, 00:24 Fion
I haven't played this since beta and the open beta was pretty bad. A buggy mess, with a half-cocked tutorial & WoW style kill/fetch/fedex quests everywhere.

That said, I have a few friends who play who say it's a very solid B2P MMO at the moment and the addition of Morrowind makes me want to pick the game up when I find a good sale.

Yea the Demo of the original was amazing and, like many, led me to purchase the game. I thought it was alright, the spiritual/death mechanics definitely broke the games flow as was mentioned below.

This game however, looks amazing. The tech they are showing off, along with really interesting ideas for enemies & weapons really has me excited. I love how morphic the aliens are, gonna make it one of those games that freaks me out a lot. I cant wait.

3. Re: Avengers Game Revealed Jan 26, 2017, 13:08 Fion
In the history of video games those based on super heroes, most have been terrible and nothing more than cash grabs. But every now and then we get one that shines. I'm reminded of the Xmen: Origins Wolverine game - which was as awesome as the movie was bad. The pretty fun Hulk & Spiderman games. Though most of those in my memory are not based on licensed titles. Games like Freedom Force and City of Heroes MMO (which I still miss!).

Lets hope Square Enix can do something wonderful... and hey at least it isn't EA with this one. I despise that they have a long-term exclusive contract for Star Wars games. :/

News Comments > Werewolf: The Apocalypse Game Plans
16. Re: Werewolf: The Apocalypse Game Plans Jan 21, 2017, 14:04 Fion
This is true, at least so far as the 1st edition and yes the acronym is pretty funny though a lot of people use a colon in their WoD/CofD game names these days, ala W:tF.

The second edition, released about a year ago however, has become a fan favorite, selling to platinum best-seller on DriveThruRPG in under a week of its initial release. It is still Forsaken, but it does away with a lot of the half-hearted/pointless holdovers from Apocalypse that worked for that game but only bogged down 1e Forsaken. They also significantly revamped other systems, such as Gifts which are now as awesome as they've ever been (even Apocalypse's gifts ran from 'must have' to 'utterly useless' lol. They added a lot of fundamental core systems with CofD that improve all aspects of the game, from combat to roleplaying, dramatically improving the over-all experience.

As to the concept, your territory can differ on setting. In my current chronicle set in the Yukon, the pack's territory is several square miles. Werewolves are the descendants of the God of the Hunt, Father Wolf. In Neolithic times the worlds of Flesh & Spirit were as one and he & his children - who's mother is the spirit of the moon - hunted and protected the world, saving humans from spirits and slaying ancient, god-like spirits to end their machinations. As father wolf grew old and failed at his work (by not slaying the progenitors of the Shartha, half flesh spirits, the Rat & Spider host), some of the First Born took it upon themselves to take over his job by slaying the old god, not having the hart to let him linger. In doing so they shattered the world in twain and earned the ire of all beings, including some of their brothers & sister Firstborn. All but Mother Luna Forsook them.

The mantra of W:tF 2e is 'The Wolf Must Hunt' and while auspices are largely the same as Apocalypse, only with new abilities & gifts (centered around the hunt), each tribe's theme revolves around that. The Blood Talons for example are warriors who take no quarter and give none. Their tribal prey are the Pure; werewolves who's First Born progenitors turned away from their god-slaying siblings and the moon. The Pure despise the Forsaken as well as humanity.

How do the Forsaken carry on Father Wolf's work when half of it doesn't know it needs protecting and the other half want them dead? The Forsaken are dogged at all sides, their lives to often cut short, but no one else will do what must be done and only the gifts of Mother Luna allow them the ferocity to do it.

Hope that clarifies a bit. But it just scratches the surface. My long-time group quite enjoyed Apocalypse (though mostly D&D players, these days we play mostly Chronicles of Darkness [formerly New WOrld of Darkness]). I think W:tA will make a great video game, I cant wait to tear some shit up in Cronos. The above is simply to state that if you disliked how lukewarm W:tF was, you should really check out W:tF 2e & CoFD as a whole.

The Werewolf reboot literally had the acronym WTF which is about how the fanbase reacted to it.

The game as shipped in the core book was boring to the point of tears. Sure, WTA was about playing ecoterrorist walking blenders, but the fun part of that was the walking blender part.

WTF took that idea and said "eh... negotiable." The whole concept of the game is that you're a street gang protecting a few blocks from... like... stuff. Spirits I guess.

Very cool, long time fan. Though for people who know WoD Pen & Paper RPG, I much prefer the Chronicles of Darkness & Werewolf: the Forsaken, Apocalypse has a very interesting setting & flavor and will make an awesome game.

Yes I mean Micro-SSD of course. On the prices, I forgot to mention they want $40 for one controller. Not one set, one controller.. left or right and you of course need both if you want to put them on a dock or that junky-looking plastic charger/controller because they each have different functionalities. Buying them as a set is $80!

Switch is the first handheld/console I've considered buying in a long time. But more than a few issues here have made me heavily reconsider.

1) $300 base price that doesn't include all the core tools and not a single game seems a bit steep. Want another set of controllers? $90! A dock to charge them on? $90! A 'console' style charger that you plug the two controllers into that is basically just cheap plastic handles? $30! So if you want to be able to hook this up to a TV, using an x-box style controller (with half the functionality) to play with 2 people that's a $220 investment on top of the $300 core price. Absurd!

2) Paid MONTHLY Online Connectivity. The nail in the coffin. One of the biggest reasons I've avoided consoles in years is I refuse to pay them access to an internet I'm already paying for when that connectivity offers me literally nothing extra for the money. These companies expect me to pay them $50 a year for what.. voice chat? HAH!

Not to even speak of the little niggling details. 32gb of storage in today's world is horrid. Ah but 'it's expandable with SSD cards' I see posted on various forums. All but the most expensive SSD's run slower than a 5200RPM HDD!

Why release it when you could use it to blackmail the president elect into an agenda that favors your organization.

On the topic, I've been looking forward to this game forever now, though I did not back it. Nothing like a deep RPG to get me through the frozen (and generally bereft of decent video-games) month of February.

News Comments > Overwatch Nerfs Detailed
10. Re: Overwatch Nerfs Detailed Jan 6, 2017, 14:43 Fion
With Roadhogs hook its basically that the hook will connect to people in front of Roadhog, not the hook itself. You ever feel like you got around that corner but were still hooked? That's because you were still in the 'hooks' line of sight. On top of that there were a few exploitable bugs that made him especially lethal. Hooking someone, turning 90'degrees and stepping back pulled targets right into RH's face, making his shotgun insta-kill 250+ HP characters. nerf just makes her a bit less amazing but still deadly at close range.

The only nerf I expected that isn't on the list is with Symmetra's photon projector. Perhaps they don't have enough information to get a good idea of how to nerf it yet but it seems easy to me. It does the same damage as the DPS characters attacks - Pharah's rocket on a direct hit, Junkrats mine, Soldier's helix rocket & Gengi's Dragon Blade, mostly because once locked on her 'beam' hits 4 times per second for 30-damage (120 dps). Which is why she's able to kill Winston solo, especially if she can steer him into a few mini-turrets.

Add to that her movement speed & the beams break-away range of 11 meters only Lucio, Tracer & Sombra can easily escape it and only by using a cooldown ability.

I'm forgetting something.. oh yea, it's auto-hit and as buggy as roadhogs chain was months back when it would pull people through walls, around corners lol. Symm's beam - once locked on- will even continue to hit targets behind her.

I think there ares a few easy ways to fix her as right now her DPS is equal to the DPS classes, superior to some of them. Fix to 'round corners/walls, from behind' bugs. Move the cutoff range to 7m like the connect range & make the 3-stage (1.5 second I believe) charge-up restart on each new person she targets.

IMHO this still leavers her lethal - among the highest damage per second in the game for her photon projector. It gives other players a chance to escape her just a touch easier and she can still find a group unaware and lay waste to them in a few seconds. Oh I'd also reduce the HP of her shield ult by like 20%.

51. Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda in March Jan 5, 2017, 18:33 Fion
Yea the one thing that bugs me is all the races are the same. All these people from various races of the Milky Way hop a big ass ship based on the design of the Citadel and this new galaxy - bigger than our own - has no new races?

Oh my mistake, a simple google search reveals there's one new race. Unless the others are like super secret.

Also this story is no longer about earth, so why cant I play a different species than human this time?

The combat seems.. ok. I see a bit of 'push a button & something cool happens' syndrome going on. I get it, ME is like 70% shooter but I'd much rather see improved tactical combat.

I'm still looking forward to the game, I hope it improves significantly over the failings of the original (especially ME3 which was weak all around for the most part). Also can we get some fucking space battles that aren't a 20 minute movie this time? PLEASE?!

2. Re: Overwatch Roadhog Nerfs Incoming Jan 4, 2017, 13:56 Fion
Yea they really need to do something to break up the current meta. It's almost as bad as early on in the games release when every pro team ran 2 Winston, 2 Tracer & 2 Lucio lol.

I expected this nerf but I gotta say, I'm surprised there aren't Symmetra nerfs mentioned anywhere. I mean her photon beam out-DPS's most the actual DPS heroes and has the added benefit of being auto-hit. I've seen this 100 HP/100 Shield Support character solo-take down Raging Winston.
