"I just wonder - if his games are reviewed badly and sell badly (so bad that new publishers put them right in the cheap bin) then how has he managed to stay afloat this whole time? I mean, he worked on BC3000AD for seven years - surely he had a day job? Or did he? Where the hell is this guy getting his money from?"

His previous games weren't reviewed that badly, and didn't sell that badly and have a diehard niche fanbase. He also has almost no overhead.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they also cancel Uru's online capability because the devs had no clue how to make decent netcode? What I hear from the beta testers was that it was buggy as hell and would have taken months more to be even playable. I would think that would factor, keeping it in would have meant another few months of dev's milking paychecks.

"Half-Life 2," you see, wasn't just a title any gamer worth his or her salt was drooling over, it was the title industry insiders were counting on to help revive the struggling PC gaming business.

-from the article. Didn't the gaming industry make more than the movie industry last year? Or did he mean Valve's struggling business...

PC business seemed booming to me last year, tons of pc only titles that sold very well. Did I miss something?

arcadish to me, even in full sim mode. But then I've never raced a mercedes family sedan either...

I guess it's nice to have an air-cushioned/anticipate and correct for every bump suspension with abs, full climate control air conditioning, ambient stereo, child-proof windows etc. But for me it feels like I'm taking my mom's car out on a race track.

I quit after Luclin too, my brother's still going strong though and now will be playing even longer...

RUMOR INC> EQ2 realized that 500m poly's per char would limit their player base to rich kids who bought their systems 2 days before release. Replaced their designer and further muddied their release date. Any truth to it?

I was in early beta, would log on once every couple of weeks, tried everything out.

You either craft, or fight. Both have some minor twists that get old in less than 5 mins of play. Graphics are as good as EQ pre-vellious expansion. My guess is that making buildings etc might be cool, but you'll have to endure a month or so of mind numbing crafting to get to that point, and you'll need other crafters to do the same to make the whole building. You'll quit before then I'd bet.

The wow factor wears off almost as soon as you enter the game and it don't come back.

This is a copy/paste of Tribes2 Renegades mod with no air vehicles. Which isn't a bad thing at all. The graphics are insanely good.

Gameplay wise, same as renegades all weapons are over-powered. Tanks can be taken out so easily they're a non-issue most the time. Body armor is actually good though, one on one fights last a bit longer.

Only bad thing is respawn time. In a heavily popualted game you'll spend more time watching the respawn timer tick than actually playing.

Ummm... I just played it and it's really really weak. graphics are worse than UT, (talking everything is a box of a slightly different shape with a texture pasted on), animations are clunky, sounds are god awful. You run at slower than real life speed, networking is constant stop/start lag, nothing under 90 ping, (I get 20's in CoD). Prone/crouch has an animation that you have to wait for... Just nothing good to say here.

I know it's free and all but I already payed for CoD. I wish CoD had some of the gameplay elems though. Timed holding of grenades gets distance, bunnyhop is useless, sniper rifles are useless from the hip etc. But going back to this kind of graphics is just too depressing.

I Played the original Infiltration mod incessantly. It simply rocked. Then they talked and talked about the next build, people started screaming for it when the release dates went by.. then they disappeared. Rumors flew that they sold out, (America's Army is almost a copy and paste of their work), or that all they guys got real jobs and their brains were under contract.

So this is a nice shock, I got about 4 UT cd's in random places, gonna find one now.

"Overall though, I enjoyed this game much more than Halo.
To me, it felt like I was playing a more life-like, more adult version of the over-rated Microsoft fiasco."

You mean the PC halo right? The x-box version wasn't overrated and was the farthest thing from a fiasco as you could get. I thouroughly enjoyed it... as did the thousands of people that made the game an extreme sucess. Hell, it was the ONLY reason to get an x-box for almost a year.

Released via Steam, have cutscenes that require RealPlayer, full registration to GameSpy for multiplayer, then patches via FilePlanet, subscribers only.

Russian graphics are like... I dunno. Seem to lean toward terraforming..., glide like sometimes, not into consoles as much so leaning away from that, always have a different feel to their huds/gui's. Can't explain well.

Might BE just me, but I can tell them apart seems. They have an overall different feel. Music/sounds too seem less intrusive.

Stunt racing? Might be cool. First game I've seen when real crashing anims, can knock out headlights even. Cars look pretty good and the track editor, (if good), will make it alot of fun.

What they need to do though is make a real street racing sim with damage. Like need for speed but with slightly more relistic handling.

I play Live for Speed now, but it's too realistic. If you don't have a really good wheel and pedals with FF you can forget it. Just one spin out after another. You can get good at it, but it would take a good year to get to the level that the top racers are at now.

There needs to be a street/GT racing game that's in the middle with great graphics. Leaning more towards a sim, but fun enough where you can get crazy if you want and not pay dearly for every petty little mistake like in LFS.

For me, all other racing games are too arcade-ish and LFS is too pro. /shrug

I got it just to look around. You float alot... friendlies all over, busy place. Seems you can go from one town to another by road and there's different vendors there, but you don't have money. One guy shot at me... either I don't have weapons or I was shooting back, don't know, but I died quick.

Graphics are very Russian, which is nice if you like that, and everything moved smoothly. Not alot of stuff though, it's a desert area. Might be neato, undecided.

No wheel support?? WTF driving with keyboard is as lame as it gets. Very arcade, won't attract any serious race sim fans like this.

REAL pretty game though, lotsa flair. Helicopter, cows, people. Env maps are awesome.

Just needs wheel with FF support in the demo. Rally is all about hitting bumps and skipping around turns.

What's with the in your face HUD? I hope that's an x-box thing, I don't wanna play the whole game looking through that. Talk about an immersion killer.
