doom3 was a repetitive tech demo - there is not much to be expected from another attempt at an already bankrupt single-player experience.
Ok, some people still pay minesweeper, so this is not a judgement against those who could feasibly like Doom3, just an accurate critique of the state of gameplay in this techdemo.

The best online FPS ever. I hope they add destructable environments and the ability to interact with the world instead of running around on cement all the time.
SHIT demo and even worse game. The hype surrounding this game was unwarranted as everyone can clearly see now. The iconoclast rebel programmer should remember that gameplay needs to be a part of EVERY GAME, no matter what new territory you are exploring.

VALVE is, by their relationship to steam, a stinking puddle of urine. The resources devoted to STEAM and its antagonistic stance towards the user could have been put to much better use. Maybe spend some of those resources towards a more non-linear approach to level design and objectives.

RCT3 is a great game - sandbox mode is very fun. The enhanced graphics aid contruction and are very smooth on an R9800.
There are no showstopping bugs, but I usually play in sandbox mode. The interface could use a few tweaks such as a larger X close box, but they are only minor. Overall, it is a fantastic improvement on the tedious 2d tile-based games.

I'm glad almost everyone agrees that Doom3 is a pile of shit. That shows the majority of gamers still value gameplay.
I thought I'd add another comment on this Doom3 tech demo - the models look stupid. I realize that doom had flaming eyeballs and demons, but they were presented in a lighthearted, satirical way. Doom3 has just silly shit slapped together and now it's supposed to scare you or shock you? Some of the worst models ever in a game and some with horribly low poly counts for such an advanced tech demo.

Marathon will always be associated with the MAC as it was one of the only FPS games available on that pathetic platform.

I can't beleive, after proving that they cannot create a compelling single-player game, that id would have the balls to release an expansion for their unenjoyable tech-demo.
Hand off the engine to a real developer that has 'GAMEPLAY' on their to-do list!
