I also have to agree with the consensus that Theif3/DeusEx lighting looks much more interesting. There are a very limited set of lights in doom3 that are really active, the rest rely on standard lightmaps.

Theif 3 looks much better because the levels are much more interesting and visually stimulating and the realtime lighting compliments it nicely.

Doom3 tries to utilize cheap thrills as its tension-builder, but this only works successfully a handful of times. 8-10 hours of cheap thrills makes this tech demo ring hollow.

Most of those statements are dean on! The tiny levels, the lacking AI, the obvious and cheap monster-closet technique.

This tired tech-demo needs a new developer.

Hopefully HalfLife2 will rebuke the monster-closet ideal and showcase more than 2 lines of AI code. 1- rotate toward player 2- attack

the argument about the flashlight hilighting the new lighting tech is akin to taking huge pictures of red apples and yellow bananas when color photography was first introduced

after people got past the obvious, inspirational works were created

now that we have a boring, overly-long tech-demo of lighting, perhaps a real developer with imagination will crank out a masterpiece

thank god for this - maybe there will be a disco ball mod so you can see the tiny environment, the flashlight circle gets old quickly

DOOM3 is the FPS equivalent of KAIS KEYHOLE FILTER

FIX THE STAT SERVERS EPIC!!!

Doom3 has no multiplayer to speak of, so you cannot compare it to the robust UT2K4.

I just knew they couldn't pull off a single-player experience. Tiny, shoebox-size levels and repetitive, uninspiring monsters.

CryTek is far more ambitious than id has been save for the first doom and quake, with their one line of AI code and tiny, shoebox-size indoor levels.

I remember the patches and hacks when GLQuakeworld was released. Those were the days id was pushing the envelope. It seems that, in recent years, other developers beat id to the punch. Hi-res textures, single-player immersion, advanced AI, portals off BSP tree, large environments, bump mapping, realtime lighting, etc.

After Quake3, id really needs Doom3 to not suck.

Why does it take so long to render the low-poly models and small environments? It the lighting that inefficient that the models had to be dropped?

If you had only waited, you could have snagged the x800!

Such is the price of progress. Also, 1GB ram is a little slim.

Beautiful patch! The icing on an already delicious cake. Fixing the controls relieves much frustration!

Thanks egosoft!!

I like how urge people to grow up and yet curse them in a childish manner and give them the 'finger'. Typical steam user!

This will be the engine of choice for consoles due to its incredibly small map size.

I was hoping this title was going to leapfrog OFP in terms of the improved graphics and environment interaction, but sadly it turned out to be the frog's ass.

Also, Operation Flashpoint 1.92 with ECP mod - awesome!

To this day I regret buying Quake3. Should have just copied it and played on cracked servers. Uninspired redefined. Tiny maps, 2 lines of bot AI, meager weapons and shoebox-sized maps. Yuck!

Looks like doom3 still retains the tiny maps - let's see if the crap AI and laughable single-player has improved. Sure won't buy it, but I hope it's worth a copy.

Counter-Strike Condition Zero
