You have no idea how many times we've had to answer the question. That and "Is this an MMORPG?" It's not a dumb answer if everyone is asking the question.

Yes, you could. This is why the "r" key is the default key to hold for exactly this purpose

This is true, we can't be very certain that people will add bots when we release the SDK. Since this is a multi-player only game, I suspect we'll spend our time adding new game types, new features, and trying to just make it more and more fun. As I said, we're much more interested in fighting humans than we are bots, so I doubt that we'll add bots. I don't mean to discourage it - I think it'd be nice for people who want to have small games with no outsiders, and we'd gladly help out anyone who wanted to add it. But I doubt we'll be the ones to add it, since our resources are limited and we have some things that we're working on already.

Although I hate to interrupt a good USA vs. the world thread, just wanted to mention that we will be releasing the SDK for Savage, so hopefully people can show us up with some great mods for the game. The demo will not be moddable though, sorry

We are also going to be releasing future content updates for the game (for free of course), including new maps, units (such as a medic), props, etc.

Quboid, yup, you can just nuke the dir and the entry. We don't do any registry mess with the game.

The linux client is included on the retail CD. The box says, "Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP or Linux" on the side even.

There is no AI in the retail version - we wanted the game to be real players against real players. We just don't like fighting bots. Once we release the SDK, people will probably make some bots for small lan parties like you mentioned.

There is a bug in zonealarm that is making it take out games from the list. We managed to reproduce it with Quake3 last night. If you turn it down to Medium settings you'll get a gamelist.

If you have a web proxy, you should set the http_proxy cvar to the address (and port) of your web proxy. That might be why you're not getting a gamelist.

If you choose Host Game, it will only be broadcast to your LAN. We only list dedicated servers in the full game list that is sent out.

Because it's not. It is first person when using a ranged weapon, and third person when using a melee weapon. This is simply because you would get totally destroyed trying to do melee in a fps view.

I think you'll find that if a publisher tries to undercut the retailers by very much, they'll simply stop carrying the game.

You can find it online for as low as $38 at gogamer.com. You can also buy a downloadable copy online from our publisher, igames.com, for $40. No stores to visit, just download the game.

Retail players can play on demo servers, but not vice versa (since retail servers could be running other maps, with beasts, etc.)

The demo is two maps (eden2 and crossroads), human vs. human only. The demo is being released for both Linux and Windows. The Linux version of the demo includes a dedicated server. The Windows version has a .bat file you can run to run a dedicated server.

Definitely no need to apologize, I'm glad you're getting a better ping now. You might also want to try installing the 1.02beta3 patch on our forums, as it has major lag compensation improvements as well as a more accurate server ping calc over the current retail (1.01) version. Or you can wait a few days for us to roll the beta patch out on the auto-updater and make it official.

Hrm, so which part is rediculous, that you have a 100ms ping to servers on the east and west coasts of the US, or that nobody is running a server that is closer to Toronto?

The servers default to no team damage (try it before you criticize, it works out well for the game), and commanders can be impeached by the team. Players can also call votes to kick other players, of course. These simple steps alone manage to stop 95% of the griefers out there.

While I hate to detract from a good hate post, the game is 1st person when you're using a ranged weapon (aka gun), and 3rd person when you're using a melee or running.

We don't have bushes in the game right now, either, just lots of trees and grass.

For those who aren't familiar with Savage, you can check out the gameplay trailer at: http://www.s2games.com/gameplaytrailer/Savage_Gameplay_20030618.zip

Hehe, I can imagine! I know you guys have put just an amazing amount of work into it, and I don't mean to take anything away from that at all.

NS going retail? That's worth a post of its own!
