What I posted below is mostly fact. I'm not one of the fanboys that think Aftermath is the greatest game ever. Silent Storm is better, simple as that. I did get annoyed with all the attacks on ALTAR based on misunderstandings or lack of knowledge in the beginning however, and vented some of my frustration here. For that I am sorry.

I do however think Aftermath has great potential. That is an opinion, and it's up to you to decide what you think. Reason I tried to explain a few things below, is that I run a Aftermath fan-site, and am in contact with ALTAR on a regular basis. Thus I know more about the trouble they faced than most others, and it could help explain a few things for some.

Yeah, UFO2000 is fun. Been a while since I tried it though. Probably improved a good deal since then.

Invasion 2021 was new to me. Looks interesting from the screens! Thanks for the heads up.

Regarding Xenocide, I would also love to see some tactical stuff. Only thing I've seen so far is textures and models. Quite a bit of that posted at their boards though.

http://www.ufo-extraterrestrials.com/ (don't know all that much about this one)

Believe it or not, but there are quite a few people out there that like UFO:Aftermath. The official site have pretty much all the reviews there is listed, as you can see here: http://www.ufo-aftermath.com/pages/press.html

The average is about 70 % as Awesome says I believe. And we have had a fairly good modding community compared to for instance Silent Storm. I find that strange, since I think S2 is a better game. I like Aftermath, but S2 is stunning.

S2 (and the upcoming S3) does however lack the strategic part, and that's sorely missed from my point of view. It was simplified in Aftermath as well, but at least there was some of it. And the voices is as bad in S2 as in Aftermath

But back on topic. Aftermath sold more in preorders than Cenega expected it to do in it's lifetime. It was the first "big hit" for them as far as I know. And therefore I am positive that they are willing to put some serious resources into the sequel. I hope so at least, and the trailer looked promising quality-wise.

You should also be aware of the situation ALTAR were in when they developed Aftermath. Vivendi (or who it was that gave them Dreamland) abandoned them shortly after they started, and thus they were without a publisher for most of the development period. And it's not easy to develop a game without money ;).

My point is that ALTAR is in a much better position to give us what we want now, and they listen closely to their community. So even though I guess I'm kind of biased, I'll ask you to at least be open minded.

Does anyone know if you can hack the game to get it to play in English like the Russian release of the original?
That isn't known yet I believe...

I'm looking into Silent Storm is it Really story drivin? would you say it like Fallout tactics or Commandos? I would like to hear an honest opinion before I buy it.
Well, you can choose between a couple of missions at any given time, and they drive the story on. There are also random encounters all over the place. Fallout: Tactics like I would say.

Anyway, Silent Storm is one of the best TB games in a LONG time. If you like this type of game there is no better alternative on the market now IMO. Just do yourself a favour and buy it ;).

If I am to find some negative points with this game however, it would have to be: Bad voice acting, heavy engine (your PC better be up to it), some people have bug trouble (I have had more or less none of that) and that the campaigns are fairly similar.

Nice to see you back on Blue's.
Thanks
Of course S2 is much better and has my full attention.
Yeah, it is neat. The engine is stunning! I miss many things in it, but they have a great foundation for making a true classic!

The only features that would be missing for the most part would be research and ships (but that loss is acceptably balanced out by the potential for cool exoskeleton armors aka moddified panzerkleins).
Um, so the only part that would be missing is the strategic part of X-Com? Like research, base building, intercepts and so on... In other words, what we can get is new maps, with new models and guns. Only the tactical game? Well, that would be fun of course, but it's a shame it can't be made into a complete X-Com experience.

so they wanted to associate themselves with X-com success...despite it being a completely different game...shocking.
And do you think it is the developers making the US version of the box? Or deciding what's to be written on them?

You see, it's the publisher that is making the box. Cenega is the European publisher, and there are no quotes on it. But it was published by Tri Synergy in the US, and they (or possibly Cenega) decided that this box should be full of idiotic quotes like that. Don't think that did much good for the sales over there, and it only helped annoy people that thus expected it to be identical to X-Com.

But whoever is the fault of this, it surely isn't ALTAR (the developer). As you say, they have said since the beginning that this is not an X-Com game. They never said it isn't inspired by X-Com (which any fool can tell it is), and it was originally the Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge game, developed by the Gollop brothers, creators of X-Com.

Every other x com remake besides this one and project xenocide should just combine and make a Silent Storm X-com mod.
That would be NEAT! But I hear that the modding possibilities of Silent Storm is rather limited? That you can mostly add new weapons and a few other things?

Was it me, or did the "aliens" just come right at you everytime? Also, why would "aliens" be using AKs?
No, that would be the Transgenants, or mutants if you will. They are mutated earth creatures like humans, dogs, birds and so on. Is it so strange that a mutated human would use human weapons? If you had played a bit longer, you would have met the Reticulans, or aliens. They do not use AK47, believe me!

UFO:Alien Invasion is a VERY promising start. Everyone that consider themselves TB fans should take a look. There is also another remake project in the works called Project Xenocide. Their site can be found here: http://www.projectxenocide.com/

As for UFO:Aftermath, there are still quite a few that play it, and many like it. Hardcore X-Com fans that expected a sequel to the series were in many cases disappointed though.
