Speaking of priorites I remember a thief 2 level where you had to borrow a mask from some rich guys museum, i have a strong memory of wandering miles off track and finding an unfinished corner I guess we all have to watch out for rose tinted glasses syndrome

Yep, high res textures made it worth the wait. Oh and most people are just worried. The best thing about assuming the worst is the constant stream of pleasent suprises, IW wasn't actually a terible game it just compromised too much for those of us that obsessed over the first game, on its own merit it wasn't half bad patched on the pc, just another in a long line of average pc titles that have been over rated (Call of Duty, HALO, XIII,etc..).

I've given IW a quick play on both a patched PC system and an xbox, and the truth is both versions smell of mediocrity for a whole host of reasons. Troubling thing about multi platform development, the fact that console players are strictly speaking restricted in their freedom of movement by the more cumbersome controls. I guess I'm worried about thief 3 basically being reworked as a linear obsticle avoider ala PoP:ST, (not a bad game itself just the best example of what i was trying to talk about).

Most annoying thing about BF/DC for me is the 10s of lag you get the first time you press escape and it defaults to the server browser. Frustrating.

Would be nice to see the freeform aspects of the game expanded, make property control a larger part of the game, maybe have rival gangs launch attacks on your properties try and take over stuff etc.

I may be a fool, but I honestly don't believe that Steam is the start of pay for play based CS,I think that it was stated somewhere that Valve was planning to release HL2 at a lower cost via steam, and also to sell the mp / sp parts seperately. Frankly several methods of payment could work out in our (the consumers) favour. However, no sp offline, steam itself and the paranoid tendancys of the gaming comunity as a whole make it seem like valve has caught the 'english disease'.

I think steam is an interesting mix of ideas, with swarming downloads it could actually become half useful, seems to be alot of ignorance about what it actually does. Steam doesn't touch your original install of half-life unless you tell it to, doesn't launch at start unless you tell it to, the difficulty is seperating the real concerns about a frankly substandard piece of software.
For example steam regually fails to terminate properly when you close the tray icon, it doesn't update people as to when its downloading content (appearing to have crashed), it doesn't resume partial content downloads (this is awful, actually maybe the cause of 99% of the other steam problems) and it allows you to launch mid download. Can anybody add anything else to the list ?
