Undying had a nice twist in it as well, finally figuring out how you had been played and getting the celtic scythe and some really nasty magics made a nice transition from 'running scared' to 'out for vengence'.

Me too, full throttle, day of the tenticle etc.. all classics - Strangely I would have thought point n clicks would be perfect for the console market, there is huge rental industry so get sam n max 2 80-90 in the official xbox and ps2 magazines and your laughing.

I predict a series of ww 2 themed single player orientated console based shooters under the battlefield brand.

Spiritual Successor, phrase - "We could not make our game do everything the 10 year old 8 bit sprite base engine does because we fucking suck". See UFO: Aftermath.

Also, fucking matel or someone owns the licence to x-com, don't want to develop it, screwed the gollup brothers out of a studio and forced them to go make play by mail games in HELL.

I Would have expected FFvs3R to be out alot sooner, but story based mp sounds interesting enough to be worth waiting for.

Some of the later places were pretty freaky - in the sub human autumn world with the witch women who levitated and threw fire... Only way to play though was on hardest - that way most everything was a threat. Also it had non run of the mill weapons which was nice.

Slightly random point but do the posts go 1 3 2 for anyone else in flat? Anyhow seeing as every new computer for about the last 3 years has shipped with a DVD rom, a 16x DVD writer goes for about $70 now adays and a DVD drive is almost exactly the price of a CDR I really don't see why multiple CD releases still exist. Oh and i hate cd cases, they break at the drop of a hat.

Heavily influenced by the Stalker Tarkovski film apparently.

What really frustrated me about doom3 was all the clever tech that esentially became window dressing, it really felt like it was punching below its weight. For example; shiney new computers, they looked great and used great but hardly did much more than a toggle switch in most places.

Apparently they don't, the gfx drivers and everything else are in a pretty poor state, most people estimate about 50%-70% of the framerate you get in windows.

page file at 1.5 - 3 gigs, gig of ddr 400 ram, XP 3200+ 8x AGP board, latest drivers from nvidia, 40 gigs of free space on two drives on seperate ide channels, freshly defraged in an attempt to fix the stuttering problem. GeForce 6800 GT - level of performance; utterly and totally abysmal. Ran into 3 show stopping bugs:

1. Returned to my apt to find that the desks had been replaced with desks of a similar model but larger size, could no longer reach my computer to get email as it was embeded inside the desk and had to reload an earlyer game.
2. Boat loading bug CTD
3. First times I got to the final cut scene i couldn't move, had to reload the final bos fight from an earlyer autosave and attempt it twice before the level transition managed to not get me stuck in the floor.

All in all, if you didn't run into this stuff consider yourself very lucky, I wish I hadn't.

EDIT:
First ran into this on the tribes 2 forums - people would be posting things like '3 months and still CTD on startup' and it would be follwed by Iraqi Information Minister style diatribes in sub-english. Typically they would say that there were no bugs, or if there were any it was the fault of the person playing it. Strange to see its still a problem, its psychologically a very weird thing to do, even on an internet forum. I would guess its people who identify too much with the game, to the extent where an attack on it becomes an attack on themselves - do these people really have such shallow lives that computer games are acting as surogates for relationships? Seriously people its not your mom we are beating to death here.

Vampire is the most buggy game I have ever played, I really wanted to like it but I am seriously considering never purchasing another Trokia game ever again as I encountered no less than 3 (fucking 3 !) show stopping bugs that forced me to use to console to continue. This is beyond even a joke and worse than ToEE.

Apparently the biggest new time sink is the amount of time spent in 3dsmax/Generic, these new environments with their detailed rendered objects/meshes take a huge amount of time to create and populate. For example consider the number of prefabs that came with the sdk (0).

Macs just ship with a one button mouse, if only windows had the same philosophy much tech support grief might be avoided - anyone that deserved right click would have to go buy a mouse and manage to plug it in first...

Given that doom 3 is open gl and compiled for linux anyhow getting it to work on X wouldn't be that much of a major undertaking would it ?

There are literally hundreds of high def packs that sort out morrowinds weakest areas - texturing, with those installed, and the high def trees extra wildlife etc.. morrowind becomes a completely different game and one that is definately worth trying.
