"...Perhaps wishful thinking will allow us to believe the retail version of the game will be improved..."

You could just live in a delusional world like me. In my world HL2 and D3 are released and bug free, no one stole the Source code, and Steam is just water vapor.

*sigh*

soooo nice here

I'm not trying to pile on but fuk, HL and all its mods were always good solid gaming that you could count on.

Now they had to go and fuk it up! I no longer expect new onine games to be good, but they couldn't have just let HL alone.

fuk!

(1.) Keanu Reeves is not, never was a good actor. His range doesn't extend beyond "Bill and Ted". To be fair, he was cast as a mannequin in the Matrix movies, and he succeded in that regard.

(2.) Somewhere along the way, probably due to the success of Matrix 1, the Wachowski brothers began to believe that whatever they touched would turn to gold. Matrix 2 and 3 were rambling, self-indulgent explorations. They forgot the basics: Tell a good story, make a good movie.

Is this the same havok engine where computer monitors fly around the room like hollow plastic props?

And why do people say they "beat" the game? Games are made to be "beaten". All those baddies are born to die and make you feel like u got skilz.

ok enough of stating the obvious, what was this thread about... Yes Enter The Matrix. I have to say that I downloaded this game, full version, all four CD's, and what a waste of time. It did teach me a lesson though: don't warez games because virtually everything out there sucks so bad that it's not even worth your time.

Oh yeah, there's the moral thing too.

Well, everyone knows that mods don't make a game more attractive to gamers. That's just a known fact. Good job ION Storm!

It doesn't have much to do with the economics changing.

Quake1-3, Half-Life, RTCW, Unreal(1) - none of these had exclusive demo's, yet they succeeded; why?

Because quality sells. It always has. And when you have a quality game, you as a dev or publisher will be successful, and you won't need to go through this coy-cloak-and-dagger-make-people-jump-through-hoops-gimme-dat-secret-decoder-ring thing.

This offer of bundling HL1 is silliness of course, but it reminds me that I went to play HL Deathmatch classic the other day because it had been awhile and I felt like playing a game that I KNEW I would enjoy.

Well, that's what I get for thinking.

Every player on HL1 now seems to do this goofy jumping thing all the time. It's not bunny-hopping, it looks like they are jumping forward, only very fast. The net effect is everyone is bouncing back and forth all over every map like a fucking ping-pong ball.I don't know whether it's a hack or a script or a cheat but it definitely ruins the game.

I'm almost afraid to fire up Quake1 now.

The "best" part is, we have only the same to look forward to with HL2, assuming it's ever released. Since the code is out there, we won't even have that 3-week grace period where no one has cheats and everyone is just playing to have fun. They'll have the hacks all polished up on day one.

So players of this expansion pack tell me, when you shoot a baddie, does he get a bullet wound like SOF2 or that state-of-the-art game called SIN.

or are we still stuck in Quake1 land where bullets kill but somehow do no discernable damage to a body...

Delays are no problem for me since most games will be crappy when they come out anyway.

I'm just trying to find the silver lining.

With my 9700pro I get a constant smooth 30fps

that one sort of leaves me speechless

I tried the Unreal2 demo, and it's nothing compared to this

Unreal2 is nothing compared to most things
