Blue, you expect us to believe this is a "conspiracy game"?

What exactly do you know about this demo and when did you know it.

You can play as a beast? Now I am interested That's one area in FPS games that is neglected in my opinion. Some of the most fun I had was playing as an Alien in AVP1. But that game was crippled with lack of client/server multi.

There was AVP2 of course, but don't get me started about Lithech.

Nice try but Valve isn't some "half"-ass operation. It's a big time real business with enough money and smarts to prevent this type of thing.

And Carmack never got h4x0r3d

I'm closing my eyes now and thinking of a time back in May. Gabe was a genius for the "develop in secret and announce when you are ready" approach. Doom and HL2 were coming in September; small birds would land on my shoulder and sing their sweet song as I walked merrily in the park.

mmm... much better

*Taps microphone*

If I may clarify the XIII situation a bit-

Today, which is yesterday, depending on where you are, or were, the XIII demo was released, unless the day where you are is yesterday, in which case it will be delayed one day. For those who's today is actually today, and who have the demo already, there is (or was, or will be) unfortunately a bug which will be fixed soon.

Possibly tomorrow, unless that is your today.

Ok, then would you settle for "just another game... but with some very very cool effects thrown in, and the worst script ever written. EVER."?

Sadly, that would still beat 90% of what's out there.

But as for the script, I've never cared much about a game's story. There are books and movies for that. It would be nice as "gravy" but give me a game where glass shatters like real glass, crunches under your feet and DOESN'T dissapear, plus player models that get a bullet hole where you shoot them, wood that breaks like wood ect. Physics and world interaction - all these things I've wanted in a game even before anyone heard of HL2. Gaming has always been about virtual reality for me.

Maybe valve decided to

1-Partner with Microsoft 2-Remove the blood 3-ditch the multi 4-make it an x-box exclusive 5-release a pc version in 5 years.

no wait, that would make them Bungie.

the (Max Payne) story wasn't all that great and you remove bullet time, it's just another game

whoa there pard'ner!, you're forgetting about the great world interaction, ie, soda cans that fizz and spin when you shoot them, outstanding particle effects when bullets hit walls, and thost particle effects hold up and are even enhanced in slo-mo.

-different impact effects for different surfaces. Try shooting a wall of ceramic tiles in max payne, is there any game shooting experience more satisfying? The lobby scene in MP feels more like the matrix than Enter the matrix.

And don't forget the bullets which are modeled as actual 3d objects, and the details on the guns, you can almost read the caliber on the shell casings if you go into dev camera mode and "stop time". BTW if you have never done this it's one of the best aspects of Payne.

Max Payne wasn't perfect but it was way WAY a hell of a lot better than 'just another game' even without bullet time.

Max Payne already had the best particle effects ever /fat Simpsons comic book guy

So that should be interesting. I do wonder though if they'll have player model injury damage like in SOF2 and bullet hole decals on doors for the entrance AND exit holes.

I posted about this last one on the Max forums when the game first came out. The devs responded something to the effect that "oh it would just not be practical at all, couldn't be done". Funny how a small mod called Counter Strike of a 5 year old game has that type of bullet decal effect.

I guess I'm just hoping we get more world interaction instead of a few extra polys and a light show.

I understand the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" argument relating to speed of release vs. stability of code but this is different than most other release situations.

Unlike most moronic devs/publishers who announce the game 5 years ahead of time, HL2 was developed in total secrecy; there was no pressure of a release. They had the financial backing they needed, they had a gauranteed seller being the sequel to HL. They had total freedom to pick any date. So when they at long last came forward and said 30 Sep. it was naturally assumed by most that this would much firmer than the average release date.

I'm sure the game will be good and I'm not going to lose too much sleep over this but speaking strictly about the date issue, Valve/Vivendi deserve to get called on this one.

another game dying of averageness, I guess id and Valve make it look too easy.

I'm not saying I want clones of Doom and Half Life, I just want developers who's talent matches their ambition.

Yes they all have the "not representative of the final product" disclaimer about their demo's. Yes there are minor improvements but by and large it's the same.

BTW, regarding "leaked" demo's that seem to be more and more commonplace, do game devs have the worst security imaginable, or are they just covering their ass in case the demo is panned.
