Actually, any game that's not quake or based on quake engine pretty much has bad netcode.

Except for Tribes/Tribes 2 you mean...

Sorry to hear this about Honda. For years the were close to flawless in their quality.

Seems a little low to me....I must be missing something.

I'm sure Derek's trained attack dog Hellbinder will be along any minute to explain things to you in his patent-pending non-confrontational manner. And remind you of his system specs.

Steam isn't enough of a pain in the ass to warrant a mass boycott.

Steam takes forever to do the simplest things, like figure out that there's no active network connection, or bring up the Monitor (or other parts of the program). The interface is too spread out over too many separate dialog boxes. If all developers started using annoyingly ill-designed software like this, I think there'd be a pretty big backlash from the gaming public real quick.

Two of my favorite early 90s angry bands, NIN and Life of Agony, have new singles out completely lacking in any form of anger.

Angry bands get soft. It's inevitable. Play Tool's Opiate and then go play Lateralus. It's like it's not even music from the same band. Same with Alice in Chains Dirt and Jar of Flies. I remember playing JoF for the first time and thinking, "What the fuck? Where the hell did the acoustic guitars and harmonica come from? Layne's getting soft already?" But now it's one of my most favorite albums. I'm sure you'll be hearing Slipknot being accompanied by an orchestra one of these days...

Once you pick up that first gun, you're a cold-blooded mercenary and not a scientist anymore. Unless you're studying bullet trajectories and impacts on living tissue...

Besides, smacking people in the head with a toilet > sticking anomolous materials in dimensional gateways.

MeatFarts: Maybe try this:

http://www.maximumpc.com/how_to/reprint_2005-01-05.html

You can "slipstream" your XP CD and have the drivers already included on it (as well as Service Pack 2 or other XP patches) It doesn't look all that hard to do, but YMMV of course.

From the KOTOR2 review:

"The biggest disappointment in the game concerns the ending and the build up to the ending. Rather than allow you to keep your crewmates together or select the party you want, the game splits your party into different groups or forces your character to go solo for far too long. Of course I can understand going solo for the final boss but forcing me to run solo at another time with one of my secondary characters does not make the game fun but instead tedious and I felt served no useful purpose.

Also, the ending well and truly sucks. Kill the boss and roll credits. Thanks for playing. Even the cheesy "Oh-great-savior-thanks-so-much" parade at the end of KoTOR 1 was more desirable than what occurs (or doesn't occur) at the end of KoTOR2. It's my understanding that a great deal of dialogue and sub-plots with your crewmates were excluded from the finished product and some clever fellow hacked the games files and found it all (with sound no less) so perhaps if I took the time to read that dialogue things might make more sense. But as it is right now, the end of the game felt rushed with too many loose ends left open or too many plots just dropped outright."

These two paragraphs concern the ending. Unless the review was edited (no mention made of it), I fail to see how this " extensively details and dwells on a game's ending". There are no specifics as to who, what, where, when, why, or how. All I see is that there's a boss battle at the end and your party gets split up. Please explain how the ending is spoiled.

Anyways, does this mean we can see some custom Blue's News Logos again? I love those and I wouldn't mind doing some myself :p

I've had this one kicking around for a while (back when Doom3 came out)

http://camaro76.web.aplus.net/images/blues_logo.gif

...but then I played the demo and never bought the game.

So, um, back to "normal"! Yay!

blah blah I have played a lot of crap games over the years. This is hardly a crap series its just eccentric.

Ah yes, now the fun begins. However I'm going to go against my inner troll on this one. I'm in a pretty good mood today.

'Eccentric'. Yeah, Derek really injects his personality into his games, doesn't he?

Universal Combat is the same as Battlecruiser Millenium which is the same as Battlecruiser 3000AD. The guy's been making space games for over 10 fucking years - wouldn't you think by now he could produce a game that gets more than 2 out of 10 rating in any review?
Oh but his games are "niche games written for his fanbase and they are just too complex for little wankers like me to understand". Sorry but I don't feel like reading through a poorly written manual, a VCF, readmes, PDF's, patch notes, and 50,000 forum posts in order to get a game of his to work. I don't feel like getting banned for asking a wrong question. I don't feel like syncing the AOL shields with the PHP levels to power up the LSD engines while also setting the WWE radar up to AMD range so I can fire the GHB. OK?

The only thing I respect the guy for is that he has the balls to build his games his way, and he does seem to care about his (few) fans. The games are ambitious. ... but are they fun to play for more than a handful of hardcore Trekkies?

I could understand an elitist attitude from a person who created a million-copy blockbuster. I don't understand an elitist attitude from a so-called 'indie' developer with a track record of pissing off both fans and publishers, while promising more than he tends to deliver in his games.

Best quote I've ever heard: "If I fed my dog a set of Scrabble tiles he could have crapped a better manual" - http://games.channel.aol.com/review.adp?gameID=1946

I guess I'm just not a space-sim type.

Now siddown! You stupid git!
