Own Firefox? Have the Greasemonkey extension installed?

Want to add more oomph! to your posts?

Sick of scrolling to see the chatbear codes?

Are you an idiot like Hellbinder and just don't know how to use codes properly?

you know you want this, baby!

User scripts are the new wave. It puts power in the hands of the web surfer, instead of the web designer. Now with Firefox and Greasemonkey, you can harness this power!

What can this script do for you?

When posting, it puts clickable buttons for the chatbear codes below the Message window. Click the button, and it inserts the codes right in the text area for you! No more messing them up!

Coming soon!

There's always an IDE to Compact Flash adapter which is hella cheaper (though there's not as much space obviously)...

http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/store/embedded_storage

http://www.acscontrol.com/Index_ACS.asp?Page=/Pages/Products/CompactFlash/IDE_To_CF_Adapter.htm

I'd imagine a 1GB Compact Flash card should be enough for XP (don't know about the swap file)

Clearly, releasing a demo before the game comes out is an act so pure, so noble, so sweet, so maganimous, that even the tortured souls who flame here haven't yet been able to muster the fortitude to attempt to denigrate it.

It looks like a SoF2 clone. No thx.

Those large corporations can spend umpty-thousand defending their ill-gotten patents, whereas a smaller independant company that may have a better product but less money to spend on lawyers could go broke in the litigation process -- even if in the end it was deemed that no infringement took place.

Well, there have been cases of some "little guy" coming out of nowhere with a patent and challenging the "big guy" (and winning)...

Doesn't mean I agree with it of course...

Its not the greatest game in the world but it sure as hell is a lot better than you people make it out to be. Especially for a bunch of mouthly brats who have never spent any time with the actual game.

Universal Combat is the same as Battlecruiser Millenium which is the same as Battlecruiser 3000AD. The guy's been making space games for over 10 fucking years - wouldn't you think by now he could produce a game that gets more than 2 out of 10 rating in any review?
Oh but his games are "niche games written for his fanbase and they are just too complex for little wankers like me to understand". Sorry but I don't feel like reading through a poorly written manual, a VCF, readmes, PDF's, patch notes, and 50,000 forum posts in order to get a game of his to work. I don't feel like getting banned for asking a wrong question. I don't feel like syncing the AOL shields with the PHP levels to power up the LSD engines while also setting the WWE radar up to AMD range so I can fire the GHB. OK?

The only thing I respect the guy for is that he has the balls to build his games his way, and he does seem to care about his (few) fans. The games are ambitious. ... but are they fun to play for more than a handful of hardcore Trekkies?

I could understand an elitist attitude from a person who created a million-copy blockbuster. I don't understand an elitist attitude from a so-called 'indie' developer with a track record of pissing off both fans and publishers, while promising more than he tends to deliver in his games.

Best quote I've ever heard: "If I fed my dog a set of Scrabble tiles he could have crapped a better manual" - http://games.channel.aol.com/review.adp?gameID=1946

I guess I'm just not a "space-sim type". And yes, I have played BCM and demos of his other crap.

ALL Derek Smart games are crap. I don't think you can argue with me on that point.

Are Derek's games as good as his simple math...?

Here is some simple (get it?) math.

Person A spends $10 on something and expects to sell this thing for $12 in order to (a) recoup costs of $10 and (b) turn a $2 profit.

He then gives this item to person B to sell. Person B has NO expenses in this item, other than to spend $.25c on production etc.

Person B, knowing that he would make money regardless of how much he sold the item (seeing that he only has $.25c invested), goes and sells it for $5 - WITHOUT - so much as informing Person A (the owner of the item no less).

Person B thereby breaches the agreement, causing Person A to sue.

Person B's argument being that at the $5 price, they would sell 2x as many units, than at the original $10 price.

Original $10 price? I thought Person A was expecting to sell the game at $12? Was that a typo? No wonder why the Battlecruiser series has so many bugs. If not, no wonder the series does not make any money. Person B would have to be an idiot to want to sell Person A's game.

edit: wondering if I'll get a response from Derek or Hellbinder... funny that when I flamed Hellbinder that Derek responded... hmmm...

Even the last game UC at 19.99 It has likely sold 100,000 copies world wide. Thats Almost 2 million bucks.

Can you say "hypocrite", Hellbinder? Or have you been smoking so much crack that you've damaged your short-term memory?

You dont have Clue one how much or how little a game makes yet you think you can mouth off to an actual developer who is obviously STILL IN BUSINESS!!!. You punks on this forum dont have a freaking clue yet you act like you are in some place to lecture or correct someone.

So how many games did Derek sell? How much money has he made? Why do I believe you don't have a freaking Clue either? (Just like you STILL have no freaking clue how the bold and color codes work here...)

Here's an interesting nugget from worthplaying.com:

It’s a bad sign when a game is the subject of at least two lawsuits prior to its release, a dubious honor that Universal Combat holds. One of those lawsuits was regarding the price, where the publisher, Dreamcatcher, felt the game would do well as a budget title and priced it at $19.95. The developer, Derek Smart – himself no stranger to controversy regarding his games, sued Dreamcatcher because he felt the price was going to drive him out of business. If Derek is driven out of business the reason is going to be that the game isn’t even worth $20. The real crime, though, is that this could have been a decent game; instead it’s a $20 game that could result in hundreds of dollars in therapy bills.

So let me get this straight... Derek sued Dreamcatcher because they wanted to release the game at $20. If Derek wasn't worried about making a profit, then why sue the publisher for dropping the price? Please set me straight, Hellbinder, because obviously in your infinite wisdom, you have all the answers...

... or you could just shut the fuck up, which I think most of us would prefer. Thanks for playing!

Not only did STALKER miss the boat, but will be so far behind in technology by the time it IS released nobody except delusional Russian idiots will give a fuck. Even when it's a shell of what was promised for all these years.

Back in the 20th century - you know, the days of stone knives and bear skins - developers left their games alone pretty much. But in the future, we'll have these things called "patches" where developers can actually update their game code! Even add new content and stuff! It'll be wild!

but I fail to see why everyone always gets so hard up against it being taught in school period

Because it has more to do with religion than science. Therefore if it needs to be taught in school at all, it needs to be taught as part of a class on religion, and NOT a class on evolution. Science = facts, religion = beliefs. Period.

'Tiger' in this instance refers to the operating software of a computing-machine made by Apple®©** and not (i) an animal, or (ii) software made by Tiger Direct Inc.

I hope Tiger Woods sues both Apple and Tiger Direct.
