Steam is evil... blah blah Valve sucks... blah blah Gabe Newell is fat blah blah...

Someone had to say it. I thought it was a required post in every Steam thread. It says so right here on the back of my Blue's News Membership Card.

Someone should make a mod that changes the main character of GTA:SA into Jack Thompson, and all the whores into Hillary Clinton.

maybe the guy who made the GTA mod will work on one for Universal Combat?

Do you really want to see Derek Smart having simulated sex with Hellbinder in the back of a shuttlecraft, with you trying to fill Derek's "excitement" meter?

I would rather it stay hidden, thanks... I'm not worried about any Congressional investigation. I'm worried about losing my lunch.

Delta Force Series... EA has distributed the Delta Force series for a few years now, not sure for how long... heck, they might have distributed the whole series.

Huh? Sorry but EA only published the Platinum Pack, otherwise the series was all Novalogic's baby (on the PC at least).

At any rate, it's the development studios that broke the mold. EA only paid for it all. I don't believe EA deserves any credit. Good games will be good games regardless of the publisher. Good games exist because of studios like Bullfrog, Maxis, Dynamix, Looking Glass, Blizzard, etc. etc. Anyone with a deep pockets or a pile of cash can fund game development. You still have Sierra/Vivendi, Activision, GT Interactive, Microsoft, UbiSoft, Bethesda Softworks, Codemasters, Dreamcatcher... EA may be an 800 lb. gorilla but it's a big jungle out there.

What happens when games don't come on shiny little round discs anymore? Steam is only the beginning...

Anyway, all I can say is that EA isn't going out of their way to fuck you all over and be control freaks. They really are trying to do what's best for the game, it's a really tough thing to do though.

I don't know about you, but I would expect BF2 to have LESS bugs, not MORE bugs than the previous two games in the same series. But what the hell do I know, I can't even get this knot in my knickers untied.

Ahahah. Going by one this alone, their ranked server list, which grows to a new high everytime I log in I'd say it's foolish to say this game has failed. Despite it's problems it's still an amazing success. Eat it up people.

I would skip the SLI mobo unless you plan on buying 2 vid cards right now. From everything I've read, SLI needs to be from two cards that are exactly the same from manufacturing, and have the exact same BIOS lvl, etc. or they won't work together.

Actually this article over at Hard|OCP states that the situation is about to change...

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=Nzk4LDU=

Cat and Mouse

It seems for everything ATI announces, NVIDIA counters with “simple” driver updates. First, one key feature of CrossFire was its ability to use video cards with different BIOSs from different manufacturers. Well, SLI already allows you to combine cards that have different revisions of BIOSs, and, in Release 80 of ForceWare, you will soon be able to combine cards from different manufacturers. The second big feature of CrossFire was its ability to be application independent. That is, if there was no profile specified for a game, it would run in SuperTile rendering mode. Accordingly, with current NVIDIA drivers, you can now enable a global Multi-GPU mode of Alternate Frame Rendering 1 or 2, or Split Frame Rendering for every game that does not have a profile. Finally, CrossFire was going to introduce a cool technology known as SuperAA that combined Antialiasing sample patterns to create a higher quality image. Well, today NVIDIA is showing that they can do that too. The big difference between the two companies is that NVIDIA’s solution is available now while ATI’s solution hasn’t even hit the store shelves yet. NVIDIA even gained an advantage over ATI by having the SLI AA modes work in both Direct3D and OpenGL. SLI AA works on every single SLI configuration available form NVIDIA.

I seriously think that all the people against sex are all the people that aren't getting any.

Meanwhile, there's a politician somewhere getting a blow job from an intern in a seedy motel room. The politician's wife runs an internet escort service and sells porno tapes on eBay.

God Bless America!

...energy self sufficient?! no, no, can't allow that.

Here's a link to a good forum where the topic of biodiesel/ethanol/etc. is being discussed by quite a few knowledgable folks. This particular link talks about thermal depolymerization (TDP) which essentially mimics the way earth created petroleum by using a lot of heat and pressure on organic stuff, only TDP does it in a short span of time instead of millions of years. The biggest benefit to TDP is that it can make oil from waste products - plastics, old tires, manure, turkey guts - pretty much anything carbon-based. There is currently a TDP plant in Missouri next to a Butterball turkey factory that takes the leftover turkey parts (skins, guts, etc.) and turns it into oil. Currently they are having 'odor' problems but the hope is to get the bugs worked out of the process so that more plants can be built.

Thus providing further proof that there are plenty of people out there with more money than brains.

I agree 100%. You would think he would have made a backup/image... or at least install Spybot, Ad-Aware, etc.

Don't most OEM PC's give you a "recovery disk" anymore?

I guess my biggest question is: How can an "internet industry executive" not know about all the nasty stuff floating around out there?

Let's hope he sells/gives away the machine to someone with more brains rather than toss it in a landfill.

[edit] I hope people aren't counting cookies as spyware.

Mr. Gelernter blames the software industry for the morass, noting that people are increasingly unwilling to take out their "software tweezers" to clean their machines.

I blame idiot users who download and click on shit without thinking.

I'd try running something like 3DMark 2005 at 16x12 just to see what happens. That would give you another 3D app to test with, and it should give the card a workout.

I'm sure you don't have another 6800OC lying around to swap in and test with, eh, Blue?

Sure WinXP isn't supposed to Blue Screen, but we all know Microsoft...

Last time I checked id was still making a game called Quake 4. id is a company that develops is own engines and makes games using those engines. Is that a difficult fact to grasp?

from http://quake4.ravengames.com/ ---

Quake IV, like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, is a continuation of a popular id Software franchise which is being developed by a different studio (Raven, in this instance) under the supervision of id itself. No firm date for the launch of the game has yet been set, but it is not expected until Mid '04 at the earliest.

id software is not making Quake 4. id software is supervising the creation of Quake 4. Big difference there. Noone at id is making levels for Quake 4. Noone at id is doing any programming for Quake 4. Noone at id is making textures for Quake 4. If the gameplay is top notch it's because Raven Software made it that way, not id. All id has done the past 10 years is rehash the same tired weapons and techno-satanic atmosphere. They're a one-trick pony and the trick is getting old. Maybe it really is a good time for John to go play with rocketships. Then maybe they can come back and start something fresh.

I'm sure they'll get either Orlando Bloom, Colin Farrel or Hayden Christensen to play Max. Quite possibly the worst actors for the job. Oh wait, maybe Arnold would be worse.

Actually, Hayden Christensen is giving up acting to pursue architecture or something (thank god). I think I've only ever seen him play whiny little bee-yotches (Star Wars, My Life As A House).
