Movie making in sandbox mode starts this weekend...

Cool! Looking forward to it. Perhaps if you could give another review of how easy it was to create stuff... I'm considering getting the game, but I have my eye on Space Rangers as well (and not enough cash for both). You bought The Movies from GoGamer, right? I'd probably spring for the DVD version.

$600 may seem like a lot for just a dipstick, but believe me, some people are crazy about only having NOS (New Old Stock) parts on their cars. Often these are the rich folks that pay over $200,000 for a 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro, and enter it into shows where you get judged by stuff like the correct color and type of fender bolts. (Unless they never take the damn thing out of their museum-like garage.) Cars are made to be driven! There are too many old farts around this area with high-performance muscle cars, whose idea of a 'car cruise' is to sit around in a parking lot all afternoon in a lawn chair and stare at the thing. </end motorhead rant>

The source engine is almost obsolete by todays graphic standards.

<sarcasm>Yeah, that Source engine... what a turd.</sarcasm>
Google search "valve source engine features":

http://www.valvesoftware.com/sourcelicense/enginefeatures.htm

"Modular code design (via DLL’s) allows swapping out of core components for easy upgrading or code replacement"

That's not scalable...? How about Wikipedia if you prefer...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_Engine

"Modularity

Source is designed from the ground up for complete modularity. This results in a limitless amount of upgrading without breaking continuity (i.e. engine version 1 games do not usually receive the benefits of engine version 2) and, when coupled with Steam, the receiving of every engine update without requiring any developer input. The implementation of new features would require work of course, but upgrades to features already used by a game would not. For instance, if Source is upgraded to support hardware physics every Source title on Steam will instantly benefit.

HDR is a recent example of this modularity. On its release all Source engine games and mods could immediately use it, but as a new feature it required implementation in the form of re-compiled maps before users could sample it."

I must admit it would be fun to try and do covers of famous movies with this game, Apocalypse Now, The Godfather, el al.

Nah, I'd rather try making my own "Manos: The Hands of Fate"...

The Derek Smart movie idea sounds perfect though... imagine the Taco Palace... the Coke Machine Incident...

I guess it's pretty hard to make an engine out of scratch these guys, so if they can match the quality to that of the games currently out now then you've got to give them some cred.

Well, this page says there's 643 3D engines on their list:

http://cg.cs.tu-berlin.de/~ki/engines.html

Why, just the other day I found a 3D engine in my box of Fruit Loops.

I picked up a pair of new winter boots yesterday. These are going to be nice for the snowy weather as they eliminate the laces my old pairs have always had, and iced over laces are always a pain.

So Blue got moon boots? Are they back in fashion again?

Bruschi!

Ugh... don't get me started about that game. I simply cannot believe that all of the offensive output by the Bills (410 total yards, time of possession was like 40-some minutes) only resulted in 16 points and a loss.

Blue must be ecstatic about the Giants...

Glad I could be of service, y'all. My thanks go to Aaron Boodman and Jeremy Dunck for making such a cool FF extension (well, it's cool if you know javascript). Once FF gets to 1.5 I'll do some fixing and add more stuff to the scripts. I've been trying to think of an easier way to add/remove people from the shitlist.

As for the Blue's logo, I did a version when Doom3 shipped and tried sending it in, but I don't know what happened...

Who wants to put bets on which post number Riley complains that there's too many people and they should've preloaded?

I'll predict the score instead. It will be Blue's Newsies with 96, Riley with 0. As usual.

If you get a camera that will output RAW files for you, you even get to do some massive exposure corrections in PhotoShop for frames that need it (and you'll likely have a couple).

Hooooold on... RAW files are both HUGE (in file size), and tend to be proprietary. That means unless you have Photoshop CS2 (it has a plugin to access the RAW data), you have to use whatever crappy software that's included with your camera to access your images. Which means you have to spend MORE time getting the images where and how you want them - and they take up MORE space on your flash media. Warhawk would be better served saving images in JPG format. You can still do the corrections in Photoshop with the same quality, and they're much faster to move around.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/raw.htm

I do product photos for eBay where I work, and the photos may also see use in our catalogs. When you have a batch of photos you want cleaned up in a jiffy, JPG is the way to go.

Otherwise, good post on time lapse.

--- edit: re-read posts from yesterday...

Isn't there a nice, cheap digital video cam out there that can do time lapse? Set it up at the sister's house - then you'd get great shots with the zoom.

Oh well, just some thoughts.

The speeder is stopped on a crowded street by several combat-hardened stormtroopers who look over the Star Wars Battlefront II game. A stormtrooper questions MMORPGHOD.

Trooper Quboid: How long have you had this beta?

MMORPGHOD: About three or four hours.

Obi-Wan Camaro: It's for sale if you want it.

Trooper Quboid: Let me see your identification.

MMORPGHOD becomes very nervous as he fumbles to find his ID while Obi-Wan Camaro speaks to the stormtrooper in a very controlled voice.

Obi-Wan Camaro: You don't need to see his identification.

Trooper Quboid: We don't need to see his identification.

Obi-Wan Camaro: This is not the game your're looking for.

Trooper Quboid: This is not the game we're looking for.

Obi-Wan Camaro: He can go about his business.

Trooper Quboid: You can go about your business.

Obi-Wan Camaro: (to MMORPGHOD) Move along.

Trooper Quboid: Move along. Move along.

Nin- if it isn't too much trouble, could you post some impressions about the game? I'm considering that one myself.

Ditto.

As for Greasemonkey stuff there's an IE plugin that can run some GM scripts here:
http://www.daishar.com/blog/archives/2005/03/greasemonkey_fo.html

BTW speaking of GM, it's broken under Firefox Beta 2. ARGH.

I think Halo wins the award for the most annoying level design. When you have to put a friggin' ARROW ON THE FLOOR to direct players where to go, because your hallways all look alike, that's pretty damn sad. At least with HL2 the levels had quite a lot of variety, and did more to disguise the fact that you're locked in (I just played through HL2 for the second time).

Quake - well I heard it means "tight corridor" in Spanish or Polish or something.
