My GOTY, over Witcher 3. It isn't a good Metal Gear game per se because there is like 10% as much story (whose girth and heavy handedness are a legendary trademark of the franchise), but it's straight fucking fun. Controls are fast and tight (MGS4 was clunky but playable) which was fundamental to making the open-worldiness found in Phantom Pain work. When my methodical plans to stealthily dismantle a base's forces go awry it's always from my own doing, and the subsequent slaughter of remaining enemies is always fun. Airstrikes and support choppers, having Quiet judiciously snipe at enemy flanks, or hopping in a flamethrower-and-machete-wielding mech keep things fresh for hours at a time.

Satellite Reign for me was a waste of $30.00. It looks cool, but jesus, I find it totally boring and empty.

It really is. Trusted the early reviews because it was $24, but the game is really underwhelming.

There were no review copies for the PC release. The only prerelease MGSV reviews were tightly controlled and VERY time limited.

And this isn't the type of game one can review in a day. I played seven hours yesterday and barely made a dent, mostly mucking about in free roam getting a handle on things.

It took no small will on my part to not play any Battlefield since Bad Company 2...

12. Re: METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN Released Sep 1, 2015, 21:20 PHJF

Ok so this is my first Metal Gear ever and this game is fucking..hard. Like I'm 3 hours in and there is so much thrown at you in a short amount of time that it gets overwhelming. The AI is god damn scary smart. Like they will fucking hunt you.

15 minutes into the first MGS there is a guard that will notice and follow your footprints in the snow. It was madness to see that kind of attention to detail in 1998.

Played through the opening and a smidge of the actual game this morning. Engine is silky. If the opening is any indication, MGS is as gonzo as it ever was.

Torchlight 2 was boring as fuckin hell. An entirely by-the-numbers affair with competence abound but utterly lacking in imagination. Torchlight represented a solid foundation that its sequel totally failed to expand upon.

The biggest flaw is that characters make stupid decisions.

Pretty major concession to make in a movie about a bunch of scientists exploring a new world and/or alien life. Anywho, problems derived from the movie presenting itself as intellectually stimulating and making zero effort in that regard. It would have probably been *more* successful had they simply sold it as the dumb space thriller it is.

I guess the crux of the issue is in Ridley Scott. Your layman will attach the name to Blade Runner and Alien, neglecting these are thirty-plus-year-old films and that Ridley has been active in the meantime pursuing vastly different goals in his projects.

Steam Reaches 1000 games... and five thousand pieces of shovelware. I sifted through my "discovery queue" for a few minutes yesterday for no real reason and 95% of the entries were early access survival games and/or minecraft knockoffs.

News Comments > Turok & Turok 2 PC Remasters Coming
8. Re: Turok & Turok 2 PC Remasters Coming Aug 26, 2015, 19:36 PHJF

Turok is dated, Turok 2 is not. I played it last year; it runs great in Project 64 and mouse aiming is a boon.

I'd still rather player either of them than Turok 3 or that abysmal reboot.

The trick to jumping in Turok 1 was to either use the overlay map or to start falling *before* jumping.

That's what everybody said after RoS released. I played for a while, found out how horribly balanced everything was and how inconsequential character progression was, was lag killed in hardcore (some things never change), and put the game down. It was an entertaining diversion, but if there was some inkling of a deeper game in there I must have missed it.

I think you might be able to get it to work (emphasis on might)? This is basically the only thing I could find on the matter.

Audigy2 ZS - Dolby Digital 5.1 input

Keep in mind it's six years old.

I don't know if they'll backtrack on something so pointedly old-school, an effort to blatantly pander to series veterans that do nothing but bitch about how the older games are better.

Don't worry, we don't play Diablo 3 anymore!
