Others have mentioned the great things about Morrowind but what hasn't been mentioned is the soundtrack. It was the first game that I can recall that seemed to have a matching musical motif for every single aspect of the game.

I still listen to it to this day when I am working on brain powered things because it's such a rich score.

Also had probably the best thunder storms in a game up to that point.
Loved listening to the soundtrack and then a storm rolls through.

Seeing some shot-for-shot imitation of Private Ryan in there.

Didn't the original few CoD's heavily rip off Saving Pvt. Ryan and Band of Brothers? I know Medal of Honor did heavily, but I'm pretty sure they both did.

CoD2 did Stalingrad directly from Enemy at the Gates...
and was amazing for it.

WW2 is fine by me.

Autonomous cars are what come to mind when I think of LIDAR.

I just read up on the plot of the second one and I'm pretty positive I didn't finish it now.
Though it was criticized for being short, so it's possible that the plot summary has more detail than I experienced when playing it.

I picked it up yesterday and played through it. I had forgotten how short it was. Took a little over three hours to finish.

I just beat Thimbleweed last night and got 16 hours out of it.
First adventure game I've beaten in a long time and although it wasn't easy (perfect difficulty actually) I didn't need to use a guide. I don't think I was ever stuck without progress for more than half an hour and I didn't idle, so that 16 hours of gameplay is clicking on every single thing and listening to every single dialog. Pretty damn good.

Got some spare beta key love to spread here at blues, just don't know how to go about doing so. Figured I should share here instead of somewhere like reddit.. any ideas? Can't just paste it in comments or forum because a bot will pick it up and sell it on ebay or mmochamps, most likely.

I've applied for one a couple of times but didn't get it...
Think you can send it to me?

99.99% of all minecraft players are young children, so I foresee no issues here whatsoever.

Except if you look at this quote from a year-old NY Times article, that quotes from Microsoft, that's not actually the case:

---
(Itís still popular across all age groups; according to Microsoft, the average player is between 28 and 29, and women make up nearly 40 percent of all players.)
---

which, considering the complexity of some of the redstone creations you see, makes sense that 99.99% of their playerbase aren't young children.

I'm not agreeing with the 99.99% stuff, there are lots of adults out there playing it (and making YouTube bucks doing it), but that Microsoft stat probably reflects the person who registered the account. The 6 year old isn't registering the account, their mom is.

Agreed.

REALLY?!

Do you even know what Bernie Madoff did?
He is the quintessential example of a fraudster.
Do you know anything about him at all? I can't believe you'd agree with him!

I had a call from a recruiter who wanted me to work on tooling for this in Albany at Vicarious Visions.
On the second call he got permission to reveal the game to me and it actually kind of deflated me instead of the hype it was supposed to achieve.
Aww I get to work on a grindy game I don't like and kind of feel is a perversion of FPS and move to Albany?

It's an MMO, that's pretty much how they all are.

Thanks for the insight.

Anytime. Also, as they say in show biz, a gig is a gig is a gig. What do you care if you don't like the game? It's a triple A title and looks good on a resume. It's not like you'd be playing it. Developing games is pretty much the same, regardless of how it plays.

Tell that to the recruiter. He thought I'd be geeked for sure.

What? No it's not / what rules?

edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singular_they

From that article:

"The singular they had emerged by the 14th century and is common in everyday spoken English, but its use has been the target of criticism since the late 19th century. Its use in formal English has increased with the trend toward gender-inclusive language."

And their point about its recent uptick is the same distinction we already discussed here, that its increased use is to be gender-inclusive, not gender-neutral.

English is defined by its usage. There were some 19th century grammarians who rather arbitrarily and incorrectly proscribed its usage... To be citing them in the 21 century is kind of ridiculous given the long history of "singular they" both before, after, and contemporaneous to when they made their claims.

There's nothing to grind to.
It's no different than CS or TF2 in that respect.
You play to get better and because you like the competition.
