Man, some of you people need to get a job a quit bitching about $144 for 13 months (first month's free).

Look at all those kids buying PS2/Gamecube games costing $50 each, and those games dont nearly cost as much to produce and dont require $six-figure$ servers to run on!

Ok, fair enough, but the client should be downloadable with a free at least week of Play. after the week, if the game is good I would be willing to pay the full retail price for the initial box. AO does this, as do a few other MMO's I believe.

The overhead excuse is a weak one though, at 15 bucks a month they will surely cover the overhead, it just seems that they are not willing to put their talent to the test and thusly cannot count on it to come through for them. In other words, they aren't confedent enough in their product to be allow a try-before-you-buy, and I am left asking myself "I wonder why?".

They could provide such a plan, but will not. Not because its not posible, but rather simply because they choose not to. Makes ya wonder where their priorities are...

#115, I can agree with you, but for a difrent reason. The best thing about getting in early on a MMO is exploits, exploits, exploits. How I wish I was savy enough early on in the UO days to do all the "GM this in an hour" exploits. And don't get me started on the AO free money bug...

It's not that we dont know, it's just that we don't care.

SWG, everything about it says it should be wonderful, but it's not. I gave my Beta3 account to a friend seeking refuge from that pile of shit AO, and he seems to have fun with it, but I don't quite see how.

The thing I like most about SWG is the skill system, no more "levels". I would be more than willing to give this game a good try post release, even in its buggy first few months, but not for 15 bucks a month, especially when you only get 1 goddamn character slot per server. This is a money grubbing tactic for SOE and nothing more, and I for one wont support it with my hard earned dollars.

Ground breaking? not really. One thing noone seems to of mentions is that the faces in MAFIA game look far better so already hl2 hasnt broken ground there

Is this a joke, or a troll? Whatever it is they obviously played a difrent version of mafia than I did.

A nice report I found on Subscription numbers, the author asumes numbers on a few games, but indicates where he does so. Also has his raw data in the form of an excel sheet for viewing if you are so inclind.

He goes into a little history with each game and has some pretty good information. This should help with some of you who have questions on subsribers per MMOG.

SidVicious:
While not an official benchmark by any means, the guy we know here with a 5800 went from about 170fps flyby to 221fps flyby with the new 44.03 drivers. He was pretty impressed, and so was I.

UT2K3 is about the only game where higher scores are impressive, since in Q3 you get as many fps as you want on a modern system, and most other games dont have a great benchmark built in.

or is it ati that is desperate? they pay 100's of thousands of dollars to help develop a program from futuremark which rate's futuremark's investors' products.

Agreed

As far as I'm concerned, ATI can stay in bed with Futuremark and spend all the time they want developing to cater to their needs.

NVidia has a longstanding partnership with id and it shows. ATI has a partnership with Futuremark and it shows.

The real question is which is more important to you, the gamer?

I dont know abou micrsoft, but I have logitech one and if the game doesnt let you bind the buttons, you can use the logitech software to bind the mouse butons to keys, like f12 or somthing you normally dont reach.

Only problem with Logitech Mouse drivers is that they change my mouse speed for absolutely no reason, so Im constantly having to adjust it in games trying to get to where I like it. Shame too, since they make the best mice, I just use a standard driver with it.

With the exception that you weren't really griefing, just choosing an alternate way to avoid getting killed.
If you were really griefing, you'd be annoying two other players who were doing something that had absolutely nothing to do with you.

This is what I put my thief in a war guild, and played with the oranges. Nothing was more satisfying than taking some LJ's axe and selling it in town right in front of him.

If UO was the UO of say... 2.5 years ago, I would still gladly pay the hiked rate.

To bad the game went to shit in the last few years, the hope of reliving some of the same fun times / socialization that I had in UO is the only thing that really drives me to try other MMORPGS out there.

The last straw for me was when UO completely and totally gimped thieves. You see, UO allowed you to do something that no other MMO game around does, role play a thief, completely and totally. Hell you dont even need to be trained in thief skills to do what a thief does. Loot a house? Kill a passer by in a boat and loot it? "Sorry to see that you died, guess you won't be needing THIS anymore..."... None of these moments exist in other MMO's.

A few years in they gave thieves some pretty cool abilities, notably the disarm skill. Nothing was more fun they putting my combat gimp (read: zero combat skills) thief into a war guild and disarming / harasing / stealing from other war factions.

With AoS they nerfed death. No longer will you lose all your items when you die, just insure them. And us thieves could no longer steal these items as a side affect from this.

The ability to play a greifing loudmouth combat gimp, that does nothing but frustrate you when your trying to kill me had a flavor that is missed in other MMO offerings.
