how the hell do you control what you dream?

I imagine that the groups are reporting what they did dream, as opposed to being asked to dream about something.

What sets this one apart, what makes them different?

Substantially better exposure and distribution!

... and the plans to evolve this towards an MMO, as described earlier in this thread.

... and massive support for the modding community

I understand what you mean though - I picked up Fate last week after reading about it in an interview with the Torchlight leads, and was surprised to see that most of the heralded features from Torchlight were already included.

Really?! Then there must be SO MUCH hacking going on, and Blizzard's protection of player accounts so weak.

Actually, Blizzard has gone to extraordinary lengths to allow users to protect their accounts.

Someone who hijacks my WOW account probably would have been just as able to hijack my bank or email account, but stealing and selling virtual items carries a much lower legal risk to the thief than if Real Money is involved.

That's a weird story.

Yes, but the being-conscripted-to-do-bizarre-time-travel-and-fix-a-broken-future plot worked OK for Daikatana... oh, wait.

Zar:

I think the parallel with Doom doesn't really have a great deal to do with thousands of enemies coming at you at once. Similarities are more like:

* Simple puzzles. Find stuff. Walk around. Shoot things

* No strategy, bosses excepted. Sure, there's a bit of a trick to knowing the right weapons for the right monsters, but you won't need a Prima strategy guide to finish it

* Run a mile, hit a button, and run back a mile to places you've previously cleared but have spawned more monsters

* Frequent occasions where you are struggling to cope with the number of enemies. Even with only a dozen or so at once, Doom was really good at this. Sam enemies are fairly tame by comparison, but make up for it in numbers

* Complete lack of emphasis on plot

Also the general feel of the game bears a resemblance to Doom 2. It's hard to describe the sort of absent-minded carnage mindframe that exists in Serious Sam, but if you said, "well, it plays kind of like DOOM," people will know what you're on about.
