Hopefully those Lego Batman shots aren't doing the game justice - recent PC Lego games have looked gorgeous in high resolution.

The gameplay is still fairly simple, but Tt's Lego games have come a long way since their first iterations - they feel a lot less clumsy, and the level design is good fun.

Wow. For 600 non-development staff to be affected, in order to correct "overstaffing", gives a real sense of scale to Blizzard's operation.

It feels to me that the idea of a game as a complete piece of work - a balanced, considered, magnum opus of its development team - is dying.

The out-of-the-box DLC for ME2 felt slightly odd to me. The character just never felt like a part of the team; as he was optional content, I guess he couldn't have. I think I would have enjoyed the game more without him.

The last two times I counted, more than 60 out of 100 of Steam's new releases were DLC content. Maybe DLC is a raging success, but judging by the activity on my Steam friends list, it's not getting much traction with my demographic.

I've even heard of some employment contracts that say stuff you do on your own time belongs to your employer.

I've signed a similar contract before (thankfully not my current one). Sadly, I've come to the conclusion that many employment contracts are like EULAs: not so much binding agreements as threats, based on faulty assumptions about what's actually allowed by the law.

If I did happen to be moonlighting, though, I'd be wanting to make very sure that I wasn't using any company resources - that sort of situation would give them a legitimate claim on my work.

I'm not sure whether I'm misunderstanding your question, but:

The offer here is that you can download the multiplayer component of this game for free, and play it over the weekend, without having previously purchased the game.

The offer is of no benefit to existing customers.

I ship maybe half the games I start. Gratuitous Tank Battles was not the game I intended to make. I intended to make a life-sim game, then abandoned it to make an RTS, then it morphed into GTB.

A one-man development company has some luxuries there that most studios (even a small studio like Double Fine) doesn't.

Oh hai Activision, we were working on Call of Duty 11 but it kind of turned into a spiritual successor to Jagged Alliance

I think the "I intended to do X, but abandoned it to do Y," line is a pretty good argument that a kickstarter project is incompatible with Cliffski's development style, though.

Wow, EA/Popcap is gonna be all over that game. It's close enough to be misunderstood by a moron in a hurry.

But there's no way they could mistake it for something else - this is an original and new concept!

Ants Vs. Zombees (AvZ) is not your ordinary casual game. It's the first of its kind Base Defense game.

Something rubs me the wrong way about collecting gameplay statistics.

I want to believe that a group of developers can make a great game because they understand fun games better than I do.

What game makers should be learning from my XP farming isn't that it makes their game fun, but that I am an idiot whose opinions on gameplay should not be trusted.

"Deep-dive" "trailer". Hmmm.

The accompanying co-op gameplay video certainly makes it look like the co-op is quite forgiving - the agents spent a lot of time running around rebooting each other.

The first-person perspective pretty much rules out the most enjoyable mechanic of the first game (running around with a posse of a hundred persuaded civilians), but there's no reason this couldn't be a good game in its own right.

I do hope it comes out on PC.

I'm quite impressed with TT's PC ports of the LEGO games - the video options and seamless controller management aren't huge changes, but they work really well and (most of the time) it doesn't feel like I'm fighting with a console game.

Looks like Origin in Australia is running staggered promotions.

Until tomorrow:
40% Off The Sims™ 3 + The Sims™ Medieval ($95.98)
50% Off The Sims™ 3 Collection ($189.85)
60% Off The Sims™ 2 Collection ($54.80)
50% Off the Need for Speed™ Collection ($110.92)
50% Off the Battlefield™ Collection* ($41.66)
50% Off the Command & Conquer™ Collection ($74.95)

*Excludes Battlefield™ 3 & the BF3 Back to Karkand expansion

... so it's still cheaper to buy stuff at full price in the US than on sale in Australia!

I'm a thief, archer, paladin.. all in one! That's TES. No reason to role-play, imo, because the replayability sucks.

I really wish there were less shouts to find, or that you didn't have to spend so many hours trawling through dungeons to get to them. I played a very focused mage character in my first play-through and would see so much new content playing a brawler, but the thought of going through all of those dungeons again is going to put me off for at least a few months.

There are quite a few you can't refuse, from the point of view of having the refusal remove the quest from your quest log. While it's possible to "fail" some quests to remove them from the list, there are more that you don't even have that option with. Fairly annoying if you're a completist role-player.

NPC: "You're an assassin!"
Me: You must have me confused with someone else.
NPC: "No, I don't. Please kill an old biddy I don't like!"
[Quest added]

Yeah, that was pretty frustrating.

2. The UI seems to be even more FUBAR now than before, it randomly drops me back ingame and this is especially frequent when talking to people now. (fuck consoles, fuck em hard)

Oh, I love this part of the update. Having remapped my controls before the patch, several non-3D commands have changed keys (lockpicking, inventory, etc.), but the key mappings shown on screen are still wrong.

So everything's still wrong, but it's wrong in a different way to before, so it's made me have to find the right keys all over again.

Apart from that I'm pretty happy with the update. I'm still an early mage, and I get killed by just about everything unless I have a meat shield, so I wouldn't understand the resistance issues everyone's been talking about.

MW2 is 50% off, again, bringing it down to the low, low price of USD$45 for Australian customers. Score!

Unfortunately it appears that most gamers here aren't very price discriminating. I guess years of $100+ games will do that to you.

If you think you won't need to have Origin running in the background to be able to launch ME3 (which is all it does for BF3), I really think you'll be sorely disappointed.

That process of loading Origin so that you can load your browser so that you can load the single player campaign is so intuitive, that I don't know why every publisher doesn't do it.

Am I the only one who likes FF8?

I enjoyed playing it too, as well as FFX and to some extent X-2. I think FF7 told a brilliant story with great characters, though, and it stands out as the most memorable game. I also skipped FF9 and didn't play the MMOs.

I played FF12 for about 10 hours before it occurred to me that I didn't enjoy the battles, didn't care about the characters and didn't really have any idea what the cutscenes were about. I still have difficulty reconciling my experience with the game's phenomenal reviews.

some of their games use Steam or Desura?

IndieRoyale is run by the team that runs Desura (and ModDB), so it's no surprise to see their games show up there.

That said, it looks like every game in this release is also bundled with an installer in EXE, ZIP, or MSI format that's not tied to any particular platform.

P.S. If you haven't tried Desura, it might be worth giving it a shot. The focus on mods and indie games is a nice differentiator from Steam, and the Alphafund concept is pretty good too.

What a bizarre statement from M. Guillemot. Too many marketing buzzwords to be meaningful to gamers and too many gaming buzzwords to be meaningful to shareholders.
