The first time I saw my brother playing his buddy in Doom, I was amazed that someone was actually on the other side, controlling indigo. Such good times. I'm a network engineer nowadays, and I credit my interest in PCs and networking in general back to that moment.
Digging into initialization strings, hearing my dads voice through the modem speaker as he picked up the family phone (haha), dialing into the Birdhouse BBS to launch the 4-player Doom Doorgame. Oh, the memories.
Even set up our first 10base2 BNC network in the house for 3 player doom between a Packard Bell Pentium 60, Packard Bell Pentium 133, and a Packard Bell 486DX-2 66mhz.
There was a certain magic back then, and it feels like after Quake 2... no game has really caught it.
