"If you don't like the game or the movie or whatever else it happens to be at that point in time, by all means say your piece, but know when to move on."

But you're expressing your dislike for people who persistently express their dislikes - persistently. It's like the relativists and how they argue truth is relative, unless of course you disagree with relativism. Ok that was an obscure comparison, but you get what I mean

"The other thing is how many people would complain like hell ( or as much as they already do! ) if the flashlight battery ran down every x number of minutes/hours? I think that batteries to power flashlights might have evolved a bit by the time we have stations on Mars. "

Yeah I suppose you have a point there.

"To those that STILL complain about the flashlight:
Do you think the flashlight would be better if it attached to every weapon? or every weapon had a flashlight built into it?"

Pretty easy to answer. How about battery power? That way you can force dark gameplay in the areas you want the player to be scared and then place betteries in areas you want the player to not be annoyed.

"Negativity in and of itself is not bad. Negativity can lead in two directions though."

This recent trend of "positivity" is not very well thought out. A negative opinion is truth to the person voicing it. Not everything is positive and you're only lying to yourself if you think this.

"Presumably x-box patches are held on the HD, yeah? So what happens if you run out of space on it for any reason?"

Then you use your funky Geos Windows-X operating system to cleanup the drive.

Yeah well that's because you can actually interact with Sam Fisher. I mean is this a trailer for MGS or the leaked game?

I just read the entire article and it verifies what I said...

"However, if Valve is sending a release candidate to Vivendi next week, the November timescale seems to make more sense, as presumably that candidate will then be passed through a QA procedure and revisions will have to be made before the game actually goes gold."

"If the Release Canidate(RC) hits the 15th and is go to go we could see it by the end of Sept and if the RC is in bad shape Q1 2005."

Actually despite what I said earlier on this subject, I dont think this is the case. A release candidate needs to go through a QA pass and may take a while to verify. Then once it goes gold add another couple of weeks for printing and distribution (it has to be a world wide release or Vivendi will get pissed losing so many sales to Steam).

"Uh ... I think they mean emu eggs, not ostrich, and kiwis are associated with New Zealand, not Australia ..."

But technically, New Zealand is the second state of Australia in the constitution

""The Commonwealth" shall mean the Commonwealth of Australia as established under this Act.

"The States" shall mean such of the colonies of New South Wales, New Zealand, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, and South Australia, including the northern territory of South Australia..."

Looking at the news page it looks like it was pretty sudden. A news update at 10am and the announcement that it's cancelled at 1pm.

Then again, when isn't a cancellation sudden?

I wouldn't be so sure. Like I said before, publishers release by the quarter, which makes end of September a likely target.

Then you find out why in the conclusion to the article...

"Once DirectX 9 is enabled, GeForce FX cards took a significant performance hit in our testing."

Stinky.

Funny. Then you read the article on Nvidia and HL2...

"...we discovered that not only does GeForce FX hardware default to DirectX 8, FX cards wouldn’t run Valve’s DirectX 9 path even when DX9 was specified in the console."
