"maybe I still have 4d sports driving resting somewhere on my HD with all the nice tracks I made 15 years ago, let's have a look "

Geez. Maybe you got Stunt Car Racer there somewhere too or perhaps, Altered Beast, NARC, Barbarian, Last Ninja or even Jet Set Willy?

"If you have stuff you want to put in the game, you don't have to wait for a sequel to squeeze it in."

If you want the game on the shelf in a reasonable time you do. There are usually fairly strict limits to where the dev should stop adding features (called feature freeze). It allows stable development of the game from that point forward in theory. In an industry that changes so rapidly you have to know when to draw the line and say enough is enough. DNF is a prime example of the worst of development paranoia.

"The CS people tend to get somewhat offensive when they talk, it seems like they use a whole different set of rules.

It's kind of like putting a cat into a room full of dogs, most of the time it's violent and aggressive, but once in a while it's calm as nothing ever happened."

Aha! So it's kind of like work when there is a milestone approaching

"If you just don't pay any attention to the chat, you can have a good experience."

So what's up with the chat then? As you can see I never got into the original.

"If you knew anything about "gamerankings" you will notice the large amount of "haters" that like to vote 1 out of 10, so the "rankings" are as subjective as it gets. /slap "

*sigh* I'm talking about the official reviews not the readers reviews. Hence...

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages4/469881.asp

We have an 88.2% average from the "bold sites" (the elite sites that are counted on game rankings) and an average from all reviews at 87.3%. Anyway, reader reviews are vastly tipped towards the high end of the scale as most of the 10's you see were given before the game even hit the shelves. About 2 weeks after that average started to tumble. /double slap

"So that's what Ripley said! I could never figure out what the hell she meant by "Did I accuse of just dropping sharply...". Now it all makes sense, my life is complete."

That's funny 'cause I thought she said "Did I, hughes...". I found the answer while watching the dvd. Nothing like subtitles to cure someones bad diction.

Same here. There never was a game I wanted to end faster than that one.

"You must be a time traveler because that game has not been released yet and probably won't be until the year 3000 or so. Either that or 3DRealms finally finished the game and quietly shipped it to Australia without telling anyone else."

Oh shit. My bad. I meant Duke Nukem 3d.

Man baldric you hit the nail on the head. It's amazingly stupid...

I remember getting my copy of Duke Nukem Forever and the aus version had the parental lock permanently on. I thought "these guys must be on drugs". What do ya know.

"and isn't really represented in game reviewers opinions who mostly showered praise on it."

Wrong. Go to gamerankings and you will see they average less than a lot of games. Only the big reviewers gave it a high score.

"I missed out on morrowind, and by the time it was recommended to me, the graphics were so far out of date that I couldn't get myself interested."

I just bought the game of the year edition and see no problem in the graphics myself. I think they are better than San Andreas from what I see and that isn't released yet. Don't tell me you wont play that when it comes out either

"Wow. Just like killing all the Iraqis in Iraq or all the Palestinians in palestine because they are "in the way". "

So palestinians who target civilians are not on the list? There is a big difference between targetting civilians and collateral damage. Go here and watch the 6 videos at the bottom to get an idea of what I mean.

"From your later post I don't think you meant this to be as bitter as you sound, but I think that's only part of it. It also sounded like they really wanted to keep HL as-is."

Yeah I see how it could be misinterpreted. If you read it as if I were asking myself that question it makes more sense. I certainly wouldn't like to break my balls on an old game.

I see your point too on the fact that they don't wish to alter anything of the original but I am not so sure thats the case. I think it is worded this way in the press release [edit not press release Q&A]. Clever wording to avoid the truth of the matter (they had no time). I mean after all, they updated half life [edit Counter Strike - geez I'm on form tonight better get a beer] to the new engine and with new assets
