Doom wouldn't have been a good movie no matter how you spin it. It's pure B grade cheese horror (actually isn't all horror cheese?).

"That's even worse if you consider how many games are perfectly suited for a "straight to movie" port, like the Metal Gear Solid series. "

You mean MGS was a game? I thought it was a movie...

To The Truth, my guess is that the big studio houses that the idea gets pitched to are the ones making the decisions. This has nothing to do with iD to a certain extent. I have a feeling they said something like "Get rid of this, this and this and then replace that with this and you have yourself a deal. If you don't like it..."

This may put the final nail in the coffin of the Doom franchise.

"Here is something I am working at the moment and you can clearly see how powerfull the doom³-engine can be even at huge outdoor-scenes....."

So now terraform Mars and place a few thousand trees, shrubs and bushes around the place and see how well it does. Not saying it won't but that map looks pretty bare in comparison to Far Cry or even Half Life 2.

Some people here are saying it's the best game ever (not just best fps). TBH I think for pure depth of gameplay and story, Deus Ex 1 leaves it in the dust. Without question. But that's just my opinion in any case.

There are a couple of things that really get old in HL2 quick. The physics puzzles (how many are there and how 'setup" are they?) and the jumping to get from one area to another, or a combination of the both. Insanely old gameplay mechanics. The scripted side however I did like. Very good for keeping interest. I mean my girlfriend doesn't mind watching me play and that's saying something.

I kind of think as a pure fps and just on the gameplay side, Far Cry is slightly better. HL2 just seems restrictive to me after playing FC. Far Cry's bad points though are the cheesy cut scenes, dialogue, story and voice acting. The ending was an anticlimax also. I really was expecting some sort of boss to fight, but instead you just cap a guy with 1 bullet and the game ends.

They all have their ups and downs.

"They all have families, too. And they're all connected to reality, and just because they're not specifically named doesn't mean anything."

It is not the same as targetting a specific event. Even so, what about the cash reward for killing virtual Kennedy? There are no missions in Call of Duty that have you kill a real person that lived at the time, in exactly the same manner in which he/she died and then provide a cash reward for it.

Come on people. Let's use common sense here.

"As far as running over, bombing, or shooting "nameless, faceless" cardboard people as most games are setup to do - is this supposed to be a plus in their favor? "Oh, its okay... that dude doesn't have a name. Kill him. No harm done." "

No the point is, when you are running around killing in something like GTA, they are nothing but ones and zeros with no connection to reality. This however has a real connection to a real person, who has a family, that have real feelings on the matter. The 2 can't be compared.

"The object here isn't to kill JFK, it's to prove or disprove a theory. You aren't supposed to enjoy the killing."

So where does the cash prize come in if you succeed? I noticed once nin mentioned that, the comments quickly deviated on Ebolas side.

"The Grabber - Gravity Gun...."

What for? There's hardly anything physicalised in Doom 3. The physics are also very questionable.

The more I play the more "arcady" it seems. I really can see now why HL2 will be ported to the arcade/coin op market.

"No one forces someone to work for EA. That person that works those hours chooses to do so. I don't feel pity for them at all. If they don't like the job, they can ove to another developer or a different profession."

Sure you don't work for upper management at EA or [insert slave driving company name here]?
