I wouldn't be quite so sure. Not that I am on anyone's side here (iD, Epic or Offset) but that's because I guarantee this engine misses a lot of the things those other engines will give you. Such as integrated AI (though Doom's AI was rather lame), workflow solidity not just for artists but for coders also not to mention years of experience in creating and licensing engines.
There's a lot more to making engines than just a renderer. Not an easy task and certainly will require more than 3 people to create. All they have shown here really is a shader pipeline as the editor.
That said though, I hope they create the coolest looking engine in history and a great game to go with it.This comment was edited on Jun 5, 10:20.
