So let's reinstitute the draft then and be done with it.

It's not so sad now, is it?

Physical draft for free or psychological draft at a cost. Enjoy the freedom of choice

Negative. That's 6 million that is part of the Army's Advertising budget. It's 6 Million that could have gone into print advertisements, or tv commercials, but it sure as hell won't go anywhere else. It's not like the US is about to cut it's military spending.

Which is kind of my point. It's a sad day when a military needs an advertising budget. It's been happening for years I know, but to turn it into entertainment is a little weird if you ask me.

I guess that's 6 million that could have been well spent on something else

I know this game is completely free but I personally would have no problem buying it if they did an engine upgrade.

Well theoretically not if you live in the U.S. It's coming out of your taxes - or am I wrong about that?

Deus Ex didn't change, or even impact, the FPS genre. I doubt BioShock will.

Maybe not to the mass market, but it did for me. I think this is where shooters should be going. Providing freedom, choice and story. I really liked Deus Ex.

Hey it's the G-Man, don't knock him. Plus it's kind of catchy.

Leipzig Game Convention - the new E3!

On another note, is anyone else surpised a game called "Bloodspell" was censored at a German show?

Rar is a very common compression Blue

For game installers? Not so sure about that

as I liked to jump on their heads and shoot straight down without them having a clue where I went.

hah. reminds me of my first quake days. people on our server were still on the keyboard including myself. until i put 2 and 2 together. i remember approaching them from the back and throwing in a few shotgun blasts, then by the time they had turned around I would already be on their other side with the fatal shots.

I dont know. I remember the games of the 80's which had hugely varied styles (though they sucked obviously compared to todays offerings technologically). Even still, the games had lots of *variety*. Something that seems to be narrowing further lately.

Maybe I'm just ignoring the titles that do something different at the moment? If I am, please correct me with some names.

It does seem like a brighter future for gamers in the next couple of years though. This, Spore which is totally wacked and some other titles introduced recently seem to be breathing fresh air into pc gaming once again. Fingers crossed.

Might check this one out. Turn based strategy can be quite fun if it's done right

And the only novelty in the game, where it advances the fps genre is the whole upside down and on the walls thing and the portals. Both are cool, and both advance the FPS genre.

I think Descent did this type of thing first. Maybe not walking but the concept is the same.

Naive or not; honestly I think pre-orders are far more of a sham than online buying. In this day and age of increasing dev time this method of business is probably going to fade sometime soon.

Temple of Elemental Evil

Hey that looks cool. Kind of reminds me of UO. How is the game aside from the fact that you bought it from D2D?
