[i feel sorry for the investors who have had their money pissed away on pizzas and Bawls so that the 3DR staff could play tiddly-winks for the past ten years.[/i]

I feel more sorry for the all the ex-3DR employees that have worked on the project for years on end before finally giving up and leaving for greener pastures elsewhere.
Must be frustrating to have put in all those hours without an end result to show for it (and be rewarded for).

Xero,

I managed to take one of them down with the rocket launcher (it will land and offload a couple of mercs at you), but not both.
It took me a good 3 rockets the last time I tried, but it could possibly done with less if aimed at a more vulnerable part of the helicopter.
Not sure about that, though.

I don't know what the deal is about FC requiring Catalyst 3.9 drivers or higher, I'm using the 3.7's on a 9800 Pro under win98 and the game looks fine.
I haven't noticed any artifacts whatsoever so far and I'm quite a way in (the siege at the top of the mountain).

I thought that comment meant that it's not up to 3DR to 'get rid of' Take Two, if that company isn't willing to sell the publishing rights (yet).

Would be a bit strange if 3DR would go out seeking a new publisher behind T2's back and then confront them with "alright, found another willing and eager party who'll fork over the cash you paid IG for DNF, now fark off!".

Don't know if Broussard's claim is all that outrageous though - in light of what T2 apparantly paid for all things Max Payne, what's a few million?

Well, that should be good for another couple of deleted/locked threads at the 3DR board.

Valve is sending MS mixed messages on the subject of HL2 on Xbox, so a certain MS product manager (whatever that means) goes right ahead and unequivocally denies the possibility "as of now"?

That makes a lot of sense.

"i'm sorry, that's your opinion and i don't mean to piss on it like a VE3D poster. after writing this, i realized i sound like a troll."

Waxthirteen, your apology is unnecessary, I'm as baffled by sponge's comment as you.

His suggestion that Valve could be "abusing new technology" Q2 style is especially hilarious, considering he's juxtaposing HL2 to a game that is being created as a showcase for Carmack's new engine.

He obviously hasn't read a word of the HomeLan Fed interview this comment section is discussing.

Actually, the term commonly used is "systemic", not "systematic".

http://www.gamasutra.com/features/slides/smith/index.htm

I'm not sure if you have access to that link if you're not registered at Gamasutra, but that's Harvey Smith's GDC 2002 lecture on systemic level design.

>>WTF? There's no levels there.<<

"check out the new screenshots of Deus Ex Invisible War & you'll see what I mean. The graphics are downright primitive looking. Its uncanny how they resemble Quake 1 levels"

"IW has good graphics, and the lighting is very impressive. Please stop saying they look like Quake levels, they really don't."

Even though the term "levels" is used, it's quite obvious they're talking about the look of the game rather than the map layout.
The first game I was reminded of when I saw the shots I linked to earlier was (Tenebrae) Quake.

Ion Storm may have a gameplay winner on their hands with DX2, but their art direction is highly questionable, see also here: http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=game_deus_ex

"I don't know why people would think their levels look like quake's. That's just bizzare."
