Monolith builds good games but they need to get some people in there who can think like the average gamer.

The "average gamer"? I believe that the reason they make good games is because they think for themselves

Quake 3, well, it was no Unreal Tournament.

One of its best features

Hopefully there'll be stamina effects for those bunny hopping / always running types too

PC Gamer magazine mentioned something about stamina in conjunction with running

But, when they start messin around with the gameplay in this way doesn't it just seem like something is wrong?

It's their gameplay, they can do whatever they want with it.

I think the disorientation is a great idea.

Kudos to BitTorrent

Is it just me, or do the friendly NPCs look jittery when they move?

Other than that, I thought this was a fine example of HL2's ability to realistically simulate large city scenes and combat

Agreed. I've come close to buying a 15" powerbook twice in the last 2 months. Seriously, I'm looking for ANY excuse to buy one. The only thing holding me back from buying Mac has been:

1) no/few games

The Mac quite a few games available. The Apple Store has a large selection and there are many more available at websites like www.macplay.com and www.aspyr.com

Maybe they’ll add multiplayer.

Doom 3 has repeatedly been stated to have multiplayer.

ut the features of the gameplay is what I am refering to, that was included in Team Arena. And only having "huge" open outdoor levels if you buy team arena? Lame. I honestly believe that they saw christmas coming, so they took the content they had, and polished it up and released it. The released team arena a few months later, and made more money.....lame

Do you "honestly believe" that the computers of 1999 could handle the TA terra maps?

If you got your facts straight you would know that Half-Life (And thus CS) is actually based on the Quake 1 engine and not the Quake 2 engine. Just pointing it out as it seems to be a common mistake to believe its Quake 2 engine.

Quite right

Doom 3 looks worse than Quake 3 without the lighting and shadows. Plus as it's all done in real-time, I can’t have the pre calculated Quake 3 style lighting as a lower setting, so it’s all or nothing with Doom 3.

The whole point of the new Doom engine is the lighting and shadow system; it is designed to run with those options enabled, not disabled. For there to be a pre-calculated lighting option, it would require at least seperate versions of all the maps, and possibly other assets.

At least Gearbox made an effort to include new content, stop bitching about something the developers didn't have to do. It only drags you further into the depths of stupidity.
