I knoticed that irony too. In the game your rebeling against some controling entity. Yet you feel like you want to fight against the controling game company who made the game. If the game wasn't so good it couldn't work. Your arm is getting twisted but you gota have your fix anyway. What will they do without multiplayer to make this game live for another 6 years though? Steam might be a moot point in 6 months. Thinking about waiting 6 years or more for the next... Forget about it.

Ok I buy the game. Theres like 5 disks. So I sit in a chair for like 40 miniutes while it installs. Changing disks when it asks etc. So cool I'm done I thought. So I start Half life and Steam comes up. So I have to register the game online before I can even look in the game I paid almost $60 bucks for. Then theres these extra numbers on the registration which I have a hard time with cause I think I'm suposed to include them. Finally I'm registered. Then Steam has to decrypt the game I just installed. This takes like another 20 or 30 miniutes. At least it seemed like that long. So finally I can start playing. It says wrond disk. What?!?!?! After all that I still need the fricken disk!!! Why!?!?!? So every time I play the game they know? Talk about conrol FFFRREEAKS! The game is very good though. It's like this is the future with computers. Everyone is going to want to control you in order to use thier product. Just imagine every piece of software you install doing this. Every one loading up in the task bar. Taking up rsources and watching you every move. This is a fricken game for christs sakes.

ID made thier first fortune when people could buy thier game and just give it to all thier friends. ID still made a fortune. But like everything enough is never enough. You realize this amount of money allowed your life or buisiness to change in X ways. So you realize more money can do even more. Those dam pirates! So there is piracy prevention stuff added. But there are still pirates. So there is more and better piracy stuff. Someone invemts something like steam to make more money. Record companies start suing people even though they were the ones pushing crappy CD technoligy. Give me the big black disk with grooves any day.

So on the other hand we have the pirates who will spend hungreds of hours trying to crack something just because it is there. How many games could they have bought if they just had a job?

Just like most things in america it all gets rediculous after awhile.

Lets not get into second hand smoke parinoia.

There is one thing I have learned about Republicans and Democrats. Once they are set in thier opinions there is no moving them. You can debate and argue all you want. Niether one will EVER change the others mind. Just realize that people have thier own opinions and drop it. You might like them otherwise. There is no point eh unless you like conflict. Alot of people do.

There is only one thing that makes a great game. Do you like playing it? Thats it. The end. I have played so many games I think I'm getting over them. I'm into Hi Fi now. My P4 2.4 O/C 3g with 1 gig of DDR400 runiing at DDR500 and an O/C Radeon 9800 with Raid 0 is a great internet browser. I made this computer last year to play D3 and HL2. Now D3 is out and I have it but I haven't really felt like playing it.

Lo Fi??? On a good turntable (Minimum Music hall MMF-7 $1000) you will hear more detail and pleasant sound than you will hear on a CD.

Bitch Bitch Bitch. Thats mostly what goes on here. Those of us that know... Know vinyl is superior to CD's in many ways. Vinyl is making a bit of a resurgence. People are tired of edgy solid scrape sound of CD's. People are listening to less music because of it. Those of that were raised on records should break out those old albums and see what good sound used to be like. Those of you who say "who has a record player anymore" dont know what you are missing.

On the other hand I won't be buying a 7" record. If they came out with a full album on 180G vinyl pressed from an analog master tape. I would buy it.

I have just now gotten around to playing Generals. Mostly because I was kind of burnt on C&C. C&C kind of got a stale feeling to me. Same thing with better graphics. The transition to EA has brought a fresh feel to the series. I'm only on mission 5 of the chinese campain and I'm having a blast. The voice acting is good. The game has a sense of humor at times. I like the new demension the third world enemies bring. Look out for the suicide bombers! They will ruin you. I like putting your troops in buildings. It's devastating to the enemy. Cool game so far.

Story driven games Jan 11, 2004, 04:01

Max Payne is an example of a story driven game I didn't like much. The story was related with comic book type graphics that interupted the game. The story did nothing for me and got annoying to me. As did bullet time. But thats another issue. Also having to constantly stop and read this and that bit of info is very boring. It brings the excitment of the game to a hault. So I didn't find Dues Ex that fun. But System Shock 2 did it right.

Half Life I enjoyed emensly. They did a great job of relating the story through the action. You didn't need somthing to tell you everything that was going on. You experienced the experiment gone wrong. No one had to tell you. Then you picked up bits and pieces from Barney and the scientists. Which set up what you had to do next. Combined with very cool levels that broke up the usual run and gun stuff. In every level ther was somthing cool to do. Some obsticle to get around. Some thing that requierd an interesting decision. This is how you make a sci fi shooter. I only hope HL2 is as good and comes out someday soon.

Almost forgot one important thing. HL2, SS2, D2 and Quake1 all scared the bejeezis outa me. OOOOOOOOOOO

My take on VC Jan 4, 2004, 17:35

Well this subject has been done before. The lawsuit will get no where. I remember when Judas Priest was sued because someone commited suicide suposedly becuase of thier music. There have been several law suits of this nature over the years. None of them have won. This one won't either. I remember that part of the game. You are under the spell of a voodoo woman who tells you to kill as many hatians as you can with a sniper rifle. Who are coincidently already in a gang fight. You have to kill the hatians to make sure the other side wins the fight. Now this isn't pretty but how is it different from what happens in other media from time to time. I heard the argument that movies are better regulated. But come on. It's still about parental control. If the parents don't care. Thier kid proboly will see all kinds of R rated material. But on the other hand it is tough to keep your kid from going to the nieghbors house and watching Faces of Death and playing GTA vice city and topping it off with some Beavis and Butthead. On the one hand I want freedom of choice. On the other hand I can see how society seems to becomming worse and worse. The music, movies, games ect are having a slow effect on society. It's a catch 22. But if you want to ban GTAVC, we will have to ban other things some people might like. This discussion has been going on for years. I have no idea what the solution is. I was surprised though when talking to someone about playing GTAVC. I found myself saying things like. "I beat up a hooker and took her money" "Ya and I had to sell drugs from an ice cream truck while avoiding the police" "and there was this one mission where I had to create as much mayhem as possible in a couple of miniutes. The cops showed up and I had to kill them too. The mayhem meter really went up when I did that". But look at the news people watch every day. I think the news and what we think is funny are really telling. The news playes one bad story after the next. We love gossip, tragedy. I can't blame the news people. They only give us what get ratings. I think comedy shows like Jay Lenno say alot also. Every night he makes tastless jokes about Michael Jackson and whoever is in the news. He is not kind at all. I find alot of his jokes extremly tasteless and insensitive. But he gets the best ratings. So where do we want to go as a society? I can't answer the question.

Not to mention all the people anticipating the release of HL2 and D3. Who spent money on new rigs to play them at full blast. Only to have the games turn into vapor ware. What a dissapointment. I could understand a delay of a few weeks. But this is rediculious.

I will say this. Any delay in HL2 will make these hackers toes curl as they explode in extacy with the power they hold over valve. That is why hackers do what they do because it's the only way they can feel control in thier life. Don't give it too them. Release HL2 on time.

If they were smart They would release it now. I know they probobly can't cause it ain't ready. But there is a void with the delays to other games. I would definetly buy it right now. But in a month I might be buisy with other games.

This is a really long thread. I haven't read most of it. I just want to say. Come on guys. Get Half Life 2 and Doom 3 out the door. I'm ready to play. I built my new rig. Lets go. I got Homeworld 2 but I'm just not in the mood for that kind of game right now. I'm having trouble getting into it. Seems a bit difficult for only the third mission. I want some action, thrills and eye candy. Come on come on!!!!!

The way I see it Nvidia simply underestimated ATI and overestimated the FX series. Simple as that. The combination is really F@#king them up. I have seen a turnaround like this before. 3DFX used to be king. Seemed like almost overnight they went out of buisiness. But 3DFX got greedy. They tried to cut out the middleman and manufacture thier own cards. Then released somthing that did not sell well. Put them right out of buisiness. I don't think this will happen to Nvidia. They have made alot of money the past couple of years. They also make very good AMD chipsets. Lets hope they survive. We need at least two major players in the graphics arena. If not we will be stuck with only ATI. Yes ATI is doing well right now. I own two of thier cards. But there have been alot of things about ATI I don't like. I think it will be bad for everyone if they are the only one left standing. ATI fanboys should hold thier gloating. You would think these guys have stock in the company or somthing. Not a peice of silicon that will be worthless in a year or two.

I won't have a problem with steam if it does not do these things.

1: It better not spy on me. I hate spyware.

2: It better not force me to pay to play (monthly fee). I think this is what will eventually happen.

3: It better not try to verify my status every time I turn on my computer. It should do that only when I play the game online.

I don't mind paying for the game. I am really getting tired of software trying to take control of my computer. Doing things without my permission. And then having to download some other software I don't need to combat it.
