The rewards aspect of the game is heavily dependent on an active market, and a lot of players. After a pwipe, it sucks playing for a few days while everyone's rushing off to find Ark. But once corporations get big and confident enough to stake a claim on warp gates, etc. That's when things get interesting.
Eve is pretty much a blank slate in terms of gaming experience. The fun of it is going to be defined by the people that play it.
