#5 Gothic 2 is on UK shelves as of today... I'm sure someone will ship transatlantic if that's where you are. Lots of people asked this question on the rpgdot Gothic forum.
Darn - I only just got round to playing this through. If I'd only waited, I could have had more polys to play with... Still, better a 17 poly SS2 character than a 2000 poly U2 character... 
Broadly I liked the demo - some rough edges, and why can't I tell my troops to advance without me, but I like the idea...
But my main problem is the crashes
I get periodically Bluescreened, with an error about one of my nvidia drivers (I think). This happens with both a GF2 and GF4MX IGP, with a variety of recent drivers. Anyone got any ideas? Other than new hardware I'm waiting for a passively cooled 9600... Does anyone know when Nvidia's drivers stopped being worth updating for GF2 class cards?

Yes - persevere. Originality deserves your support...
Various people liked various aspects, but the thing that made it unique was the 'living' nature of its world. Characters go about their daily business (to a degree) and react to things you and others do near them (attack a friend, walk up with a weapon out, ready a spell).
The interface is slightly awkward (it was designed for Tomb Raider type controls, and mouse control only added at the last minute) but fine once you've persevered for 20 mins or so.
There was a demo - why not track it down.

No, when you play The Trial, you play through a separate adventure. The testers said it took maybe 45 mins to play through I think, but it's quite replayable - you have the option to play an archer or swordsman and at night or during the day. The fun thing is that there's so much emergent behaviour from the AI that each game can be quite different - I wrote the thing and I still don't know exactly how the various troops are going to react.
