WoW sort of has loading. The key ones are usually when your switching world, arena, instance, battleground servers. Hence the reason why you can have a whole continent crash in WoW while not effecting other people.

AoC zoning is like EverQuest(or eq2) where huge "zones" are setup and you have load times when switching out of them.

Both of them have upsides and downsides.

Edit: Been reading a lot of info on quite a few sites. There is major issues with loading time's which is related to quite a few factors. Bad memory leaks, nvidia issues, crashes, servers swamped, and some pretty stiff requirements to honestly play with some good detail, 8800gt(but there's nvidia glitches)/3+GB RAM/2GHz+ processor.

Not a Vanguard release but my god when will someone build a solid client first.

RA2 was the best.. Yuri's Revenge was over the top unbalanced but still a blast to play

I hope they keep co-op missions and the choices for LAN multipayer. God that game was great.

You jump to a conclusion without considering alternatives. Maybe AMD is only interested in acquiring control of the Physx API much like Intel wanted the Havok API.

If your referring to APEX sure they can do the same thing. But again they are purchasing PPU/software IP for no real reason vs Havok.

And I agree the story is silly as AMD is in no financial position to even dream of it.

Disappointing doesn't even describe this year. Terrible losses (losses per quarter this year have been dismal, market cap for AMD+ATI is almost at what they purchased ATI for, and stock is at a 52week low), terrible releases missing(2900, Barcelona, Phenom), missing key points brought up by investors (production issues, Phenom speeds have been missed).

AMD should be in serious penny pinching mode, and cannot even consider purchasing Ageia.

With all that aside, I really don't understand the point in purchasing Ageia anymore. Multicore systems are becoming the standard and their push with Phenom quad cores is directly marketing a "core" for such purposes. I can kinda see why Intel purchased Havok for their API and market base to directly influence the "popular" physics on their platform.

But if your the small dog why would you want to buy a company where you would want your end users to purchase more/new hardware(PPU) and try to shift the industry to your platform when all Intel has to do is work hard on the API's threading.

(Fusion doesn't count because even if AMD is that forward thinking of merging a GPU/CPU/PPU we're so far off from that point. They are having so many issues with even the current products, I doubt they will survive in the same capacity to deliver such a product).

Yeah!!! The halloween content is out!!!

Oh Wait wasn't Halloween last week???

No, the content was out the night of release/Halloween. Items were disabled (ie: you couldn't use the halloween pet or helm) if you unequipped it.

Due to them opening up the subscriber content to all something was fubared when the game was patched to remove the themed events and hence this small patch.

.. I personally have a vid of a pally fighting *four* mobs one level below. He kills two, gets another add, then finishes off the remaining three.

That adds up to six...

But maybe if I tell you this little tale of a level 46 paladin who soloed 3 level 45 elites at once and on the other day the level 48 paladin who owned the level 54 warrior and level 52 warlock while only having 1/3 of his mana or the level 22 paladin who owned the level 32 mage over and over again, you will understand a little more.

Hi im a lvl45 protection spec 4000+ armor paladin. Can you tell me the mobs the 46 soloed 3 elites so I can get uber exp? I have been fighting mobs even con and elite thats one or two levels below me, but if I get an even con elite im either dead or out of mana with all my abilities on cooldown at the end of a fight.

Every class has strengths and faults, 99% of the forum posts relating for people to balance a pally come from mid level people who see someone running around with verigans fist. The warlock and warrior story makes me laugh because if they even dotted/hamstringed/feared the paladin he would of been dead in no time flat. The problem is people want to go toe to toe and win vrs the class that can soak up the most damage and last the longest in pure melee fighting.

In regards to the boat issue. The night of the prime time service Blizzard said they had to take down the servers to remove the boats from the realm in order to fix the problem. Ok so if the boats are the problem why wasn't this tested before hand instead of rolling it out onto live servers. Btw the day after the boats were still there and running so what was the whole point.

I hope they fix the problems but this is month number two post launch.

The case with server load on WoW (and by the way, WoW never went down, it just had queues) was because Blizzard had no idea the game would sell 250,000 copies on launch day because most people are soured on buying MMOs on day one because of problems just like this.

Server's were on a yo-yo the first few days the 5min till downtime went up alot on Icecrown. The 500,000 open beta filled in like two days. Im sure Blizzard had every idea of what was coming.

In regards to the holy pedastal Blizzard is on. Im pretty sure WoW is getting them knocked down a few steps.

(A quick recap for people who haven't played)

Lets follow:
-Stress tests - Lag free everything ran decent
-Open Beta - Massive lag usually with server reboots (unplanned and you were lucky to get the 5min broadcast warning). No comments/explantions from Blizzard for a few days until CSR posted nothing except "we are testing data handling". People bitched, fanboys said tough leave.
-Release Day - Everything ran decent (what was it 17ish servers on launch) then around 10pm EST all hell broke loose. Servers were overloaded everything was high poplation. Lag was amazing, unannounced server reboots.
-Few days post release - Everytime you could get to your sever from launch welcome to the queues. You were forced into a waiting line to play (usually 30-40mins). Servers were being added every min and population still wasn't ballancing out. Blizzard posted go to xyz new server, new users did and that server would be lagged to death.
-Downtime - Servers were getting rebooted quite frequently and then 3 servers from launch went offline for a full weekend. Ended up with a data wipe and guilds on those servers had to be recreated. Again still server issues where reboots were common and Blizzard posted saying daily downtimes for server maintenance were scheduled then they changed the schedule for different time zones two days later, etc etc.
-Suspensions - MAJOR issue right now. There is suspended accounts going on at the moment in wow if you enter a zone that is "unfinished" that have high level mobs with low hp's. Basicly allowing you to exp very quickly. Blizzard posted no warning and started suspending accounts for "exploiting". Take a look:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=404757&p=1&tmp=1#post404757

-Customer Service - There are community reps from blizzard in the forums but well they are useless and there is a huge communication breakdown. CSR's on the forums from what I gather are not GM's nor have any information in a timely manner.

Sorry for the long post. Everything is not perfect in WoW and I figured i'd give a first hand account.

Yeah hence Intels push to 90nm with the prescot to increase their yield. I can only imagine how little P4/EE's they can press out per wafer hence inflating its price to astronomical levels.

Heck reading somewhere when AMD started producting the barton processors the yield went down by 20-30% per die because of the increased size alone from the extra 256kbit l2 cache.

Thanks for the great posts Zathrus.
